Tough Shooting Night Sinks Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 19, 2020) – After leading at the half, Rollins struggled from the field over the last 20 minutes and fell to Lynn 64-55 Wednesday night.

Denise Daniels tallied 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Tars (13-12, 6-11 Sunshine State Conference). Jaylyn Harrison added 15 points and five rebounds as the Tars were beat on the glass for just the third time all season (41-28).

Lynn (12-13, 7-10 SSC) got 20 points from Loie Webb. Sarah Baer recorded 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Tars started out strong and led by five midway through the second only to have the Fighting Knights end the period on a 7-0 run and put Rollins down 15-13.

The offense began to fire on all cylinders in the second for the Tars as the senior trio of Harrison, Daniels and Tianna Rosser pushed the lead to 28-18 with 2:12 left in the half.

Lynn would make a late charge and cut into the lead, but Rollins grabbed a 30-23 advantage at intermission.

The Tars led by nine midway through the third before the Fighting Knights went on a 9-0 run and knotted the score at 40. Ice cold shooting persisted for Rollins as they headed into the fourth trailing 44-42.

Rollins went the first 5:09 of the fourth quarter without a score while Lynn found its groove and put the Tars into a 55-42 hole. A pair of Rachel Lia free throws stopped the run but it would be until just 1:19 left in the game when a Harrison three-pointer provided the first field goal of the quarter; Lynn however had built a 62-44 lead by that time.

The Tars closed strong, but would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Rollins will look to bounce back on Senior Day, Saturday February 22 hosting Palm Beach Atlantic. The loss to Lynn put the Tars on the outside of the SSC Tournament looking in with three games to play. Tipoff between Rollins and PBA is set for 2 p.m. in Warden Arena. Fans can follow the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
