Rollins Eases Past PBA on Senior Day

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 23, 2020) – Riding the emotion of senior day, Rollins jumped out to a huge early lead and never looked back, beating Palm Beach Atlantic 69-50 Saturday at Warden Arena.

The Tars improved to 14-12 overall and 7-11 in the Sunshine State Conference, taking advantage of upsets around the league to move into a tie for seventh. PBA falls to 3-22, 1-17 SSC.

Rollins saw 11 different player score, led by Rachel Lia's 11. The junior also handed out five assists and grabbed five steals. Jaylyn Harrison, Rachel Jablonski and Silvia Lasarte Garcia each scored eight with Yari Martinez Toro tallying a career-high seven assists.

Victoria Self scored nine to lead the Sailfish. Ciara Cumbie and Claudia Charles both scored eight.

The Tars jumped out to a 16-4 lead over the first seven minutes and took an 18-6 advantage after the first.

Rollins pushed its advantage to 30-11 after four-straight points from Denise Daniels and went up by as many as 25 (39-14) with 1:40 left in the first.

The Tars led 40-19 at the break.

PBA got to within 19 early in the second only to have the Tars again clamp down on defense and pull in front 50-23 with 4:27 left in the third.

In the fourth, PBA would get no closer than 17 as Rollins cruised to victory in the final home game at Warden Arena.

The Tars shot 46 percent in the game and held PBA to 31 percent from the field. The Tars were out rebounded 35-33 but took advantage of 20 Sailfish turnovers.
