Rollins Struggles Against Queens

Savannah, Ga. (February 15, 2020) – The No. 19 Tars fell to No. 15 Queens in a neutral site contest by a score of 13-8.  Rollins drops their first game of the year, and sit at 1-1.  The Royals improve to 2-1 in 2020.

Ryan Dunn scored twice to lead Rollins.  Jackson Colling, Blake Buell, Kyle Portera, Parker Mosack, Marshall Ellison, and Bailey Pringle each scored once.  Ellison, Buell, and Portera each tallied an assist.  Dunn led the team with four groundballs, while Ellison and Rob Champigny each picked up three.  Cody Iserman made the start between the pipes for Rollins, making nine saves. 

Kealan Pilon paced the Royals attack, netting three goals and dishing out three assists.  Tyler Ewan also tallied a hat-trick, and tallied two helpers.  Kevin Barry scored three goals for Queens, and registered one assist, good for four points.  Kyle Hornik was vital for the Royals, making 20 saves in goal. 

The Royals jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Pringle got the Tars on the board at the halfway point of the first half.  Queens would net one more before Portera and Dunn would tally back-to-back to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the first. 

Dunn scored early in the second to give Rollins their only lead of the ball game.  Queens reeled off three unanswered before Mosack pulled Rollins back within one.  The Royals would score once more before to take a 7-5 lead into the lockerroom. 

Colling tallied the first goal out of the break, bringing the Tars back with in one, but that was as close as Rollins could get.  Queens would entend the lead back to two before the end of the third period. 

With Rollins extending to find an equalizer, the Royals were able to pull away in the fourth.  Goals by Ellison and Buell could not offset a five goal frame from Queens. 

Notes:

  • The Tars are now 0-2 all-time against Queens.
  • The Tars struggled, going 7-24 at the faceoff dot.
  • Rollins only turned the ball over six times, out-shot the Royals 46-36, and were a perfect 16-16 in clears.  The Tars however lost the groundball battle 37-21.
  • Chris Lewis, in his fifth season at the helm of the Rollins men's lacrosse program, now carries a 38-30 overall record.  

Up Next:
After a week off the Tars will return to the turf of Barker Family Stadium to take on No. 13 Wingate.  Faceoff is set for February 29 at 1 p.m.
