WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 29, 2020) – The Tars came back from a three-goal deficit to force overtime, and upset the No. 10 Wingate Bulldogs, on the turf at Barker Family Stadium. With the victory, Rollins improves to 2-1 on the young season. The Bulldogs drop to 3-2 overall.
Jackson Colling led the way for Rollins, registering four goals on the afternoon. Bailey Pringle added two, while Drew Miller, Colin Hall, Kyle Portera, and Eric NeCamp each netted one. NeCamp, Drew Miller, and Peyton Miller each registered assists. Chase Snyder and Charlie Rash paced the defense, causing three turnovers a piece. Cody Iserman played the whole game in net for the Tars, he faced 43 Bulldog shots, making five saves and allowing just nine goals.
Adam Vodovnik and Bobby Padden each scored twice to lead Wingate. Will Grieco tabbed four points, on one goal and three assists. Reese Orman forced three turnovers for the Bulldogs. Alex Cordero got the start in goal for Wingate, but he was replaced by Edward Erickson, who earns the loss after an eight save, seven goals against, performance.
Wingate would strike first, but Rollins would quickly equalize with Colling's first. Drew Miller and Bailey Pringle would each then tally, putting the Tars up 3-1; Rollins largest lead of the day. The Bulldogs would cash in on an extra man opportunity to pull within one by the end of the quarter.
Wingate looked set to run away with the game in the second quarter, outscoring Rollins 5-1 in the frame. Padden would equalize just after the 12-minute mark. Hall would put Rollins back in front at 4-3, before the Bulldogs tallied four straight to send the teams into the locker room with Wingate leading 7-4.
A reenergized Rollins team came out of the half. Portera netted the first goal dodging down the alley and finishing over the keeper's shoulder from a severe angle. Colling would then score his second to make it a one score game. The Bulldogs would push it to two, and Rollins would crawl back to one, before Wingate would tally again, seemingly unwilling to surrender the lead. Colling would score in the final minute bringing Rollins back within a goal, and setting the stage for the fourth quarter.
Both defenses seemed impenetrable in the fourth, turning away opportunity after opportunity. Rollins would finally score the only goal of the quarter at the six-and-a-half-minute mark. Peyton Miller drove a corner from behind the goal and found Eric NeCamp who delivered a textbook bounce shot that settled into the top-corner of the net, tying the game. Neither team could capitalize on late game chances, and the game went into overtime.
Wingate won the faceoff in the extra period and settled in to the first possession, however, the Bulldogs would turn the ball over on an errant pass. The Tars set up their offense and gave the ball to Colling. The senior dodged from the wing, blowing by the Bulldog pole and putting the game winner in the net, just off the hip of the Wingate goalie.
