Rollins Thumps Florida Tech by 20

WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 22, 2020) – Rollins finished its first half of the Sunshine State Conference schedule in a big way, beating Florida Tech 87-67 at home Wednesday. 

Jakobi Bonner led the way for the Tars (10-8, 4-6 SSC) with 23 points and four rebounds. The senior went 8-of-12 from the field with four 3-pointers. Hutton Yenor connected of five from long range and added 21 points while Brooks Cluxton posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Trevor Recio was the high rebounder with 11. 

SSC leading scorer Derek Murphy led Tech (9-9, 3-7 SSC) with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Sesan Russell scored 15. 

Tech scored the first points of the game, but Rollins started to heat up early as a Bonner jumper put the hosts up 15-6 after eight minutes of play. The Tars lead was as many as 16 in the half before taking a 44-31 advantage into intermission. 

Bonner scored 12 in the first and Yenor netted 11. 

Rollins kept its foot on the gas to start the second and the lead ballooned to 71-51 after Will Erickson hit back-to-back three-pointers with 9:01 left. Florida Tech would get no closer than 15 the rest of the way. 

The Tars shot 46 percent from the field and held Tech to just 37 percent. Rollins also won the rebounding battle 40-37 with both teams committing 12 turnovers. 

Rollins is off on Saturday and will be back in action on Wednesday, January 29 at Embry-Riddle. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Dayton Beach. Fans can follow the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
