No. 20 Tars Grab Third at Jay Jennison Cup

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (September 24, 2019) – Rollins fired its best round of the weekend and jumped into third to finish the Flagler College Jay Jennison Memorial Cup on Tuesday. 

Trystan Perkins earned a spot on the All-Tournament team, finishing runner-up at two-under over his three rounds at The Palencia Club in St. Augustine. 

The 20th-ranked Tars posted a nine-over 297 in the final round, the second best score in the field, and finished at 31-over (299-299-297) for the tournament. 

Third-ranked West Florida won the event at 12-over with scores of 291-300-285. Host Flagler was second (+24). Belmont Abby (+36) and Lander (+39) were just behind Rollins in the top-five. 

The Tars finished well ahead of sixth-ranked Nova Southeastern and 17-ranked Young Harris as both schools tied for seventh at 45-over. 

"We had a great finish today," said head coach Kyle Frakes. "I'm very proud of how we attacked the course all three rounds. These early season tournaments are all about laying a foundation to build upon and I think we are did a wonderful job of that. Tip of the hat to Trystan for a fantastic tournament, he is playing some great golf right now." 

Coming off a Sunshine State Conference Golfer of the Week performance last week, Perkins was one of just two golfer in red numbers, posting scores of 71-72-71. His two-under score of 214 was just two shots behind first-place Carlos Marrero of West Florida. Perkins' final round 71 represented the second-lowest score of the day. 

Will Hall climbed two spots on the leaderboard the final day, finishing 14th at seven-over. The senior turned in scores of 75-74-74 for the event. Morgan Egloff tied for 29th at 15-over with rounds of 77-75-79. 

Nicholas Diebel was 17-over and tied for 38th, shooting 82-78-73. Danny Taggart tied for 50th, posting 76-78-82 (+20). 

Frakes also had a pair playing as individuals at the tournament. Justin Karlins tied for 48th at 29-over (79-78-82) and Michael Pergamo tied for 71st at 40-over (85-83-88). 

Rollins is back in action Oct. 21-22 at the TVA Credit Union Invitational in Florence, Alabama.
