Rollins Falls to Lynn in Straight Sets
WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 2, 2018) – The Rollins volleyball team welcomed Lynn University to Warden Arena on Friday evening for a Sunshine State Conference match-up, looking to even the season series with the Fighting Knights. The Tars concluded the night falling to the Fighting Knights in straight sets, (18-25, 14-25, 14-25), giving Lynn the season series sweep.
With the loss, Rollins drops to 4-23, and 1-16 in SSC action, while the Fighting Knights advance to 15-12, and 8-9 against conference opponents.
Leslie Seda and Rachel Fletcher led the way for the Tars with six kills apiece, followed by Candace Doxey and Sam Schlesman with four each. Rebecca Kuehn handed out a team best 11 assists, while Sarah Konemann dished out seven of her own. Two Tars earned one ace apiece on the evening, with Seda and Alondra Rodriguez besting their opponent off the serve. Seda led the team in digs with 12, while Fletcher earned eight, and Jessika Linnemeyer tallied five. The Tars saw a team high five blocks from Doxey, all block assists, while Schlesman and Kerra Tirado put up three block-assists each.
Lynn saw a match best 15 kills from Sonja Udovcic, followed by 10 kills from Rafaela Fonseca. Biatriz Souza Berti led the game with 18 assists, while Isadora Nicolai handed out 13 assists of her own. Marine Kinna dug out a match high 17 digs, followed by Souza Berti who was one dig away from a double-double on the night with nine. The Fighting Knights were led at the net by Lauren Odom, whose three solo blocks and three block assists marked a match best.
NOTES:
- Rollins opened up Set 1 with three straight points, including a block assist by Schlesman and Doxey for the Tars' first point. Set 1 saw the score tied once, with the lead changing hands one time, as well.
- Lynn opened the second set with a kill and four straight aces by Fonseca, giving the Fighting Knights a 5-0 lead. Lynn then coasted out to a 10-0 lead before a timeout called by the Tars righted the ship with Doxey earning a kill out of the break.
- Set 3 saw Lynn jump out to a 3-0 lead from which they never looked back.
- The last time Rollins and Lynn faced off was on Saturday, September 29, 2018, in Boca Raton. The Tars fell to the Fighting Knights in straight sets, (11-25, 24-26, 13-25).
- The Tars' last win against Lynn was on Thursday, October 19, 2017, when Rollins earned a five-set thriller over the Fighting Knights in Boca Raton (26-28, 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 15-6).
- Rollins trails the series against Lynn, 18-25. The first time the two teams matched up on the court was back in 1997, where Rollins defeated Lynn with a 3-0 sweep (15-5, 15-3, 15-4) on October 25.
