Rollins Falls to No. 23 Barry in Straight Sets
WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 3, 2018) – Seniors Kerra Tirado, Sam Schlesman, and Rachel Fletcher were celebrated prior to Saturday afternoon's match against the 23rd-ranked Barry University Buccaneers, with the trio being recognized for their achievements both on the court and in the classroom throughout their four-year career at Rollins.
The Tars concluded the evening with a loss to the nationally-ranked Buccaneers, falling in straight sets, (14-25, 17-25, 13-25), to close out their 2018 home schedule. The loss drops Rollins to a record of 4-24, and 1-17 in Sunshine State Conference action, while Barry advances to 26-3, and 15-3 in SSC play.
Fletcher and Tirado, as well as freshman Adriane Griffith, led the Tars with four kills each on the afternoon. Madison Jenkins notched three kills of her own, followed by Candace Doxey and Sam Schlesman with two each. Rebecca Kuehn and Sarah Konemann dished out nine and eight assists, respectively, while Jessika Linnemeyer earned one assist of her own. Fletcher and Kuehn picked up the Tars' only two aces of the match. Linnemeyer led the team in digs with 10, followed by Fletcher and Leslie Seda with nine each. At the net, Tirado put up three total blocks, including the Tars' lone solo block, while Schlesman and Seda put up two blocks apiece, both assisted.
The Buccaneers saw a match high 10 kills from both Kishara Gordon and Kristina Filimonova, while Gabriela Jansen and Anastasiia Samokhvalova earned seven each. Bianca Pasca handed out a match high 31 assists, while Audren Rose led the match in aces with two. Rose also led the game in digs with 19, and with her 10th dig of the match became Barry's program leader for assists in a season. Jansen handed out 13 assists of her own. The Bucs saw six blocks, including two solo blocks from Samokhvalova.
NOTES:
- Buccaneers junior libero Audren Rose earned 19 digs on the night – with her 10th dig of the evening, she became Barry's all-time leader for digs in a season, which has been held since 2015.
- In their last matchup with Barry, the Tars found themselves at the bottom end of a 3-0 final score (13-25, 12-25, 21-25) when Rollins traveled to Miami Shores earlier this season on September 28, 2018.
- Rollins and Barry have matched up 64 times in program history, with the Bucs leading the all-time series, 38-26.
- The Tars' last victory over Barry was on November 11, 2017, when Rollins took down the Bucs in a thrilling five-set (23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-13) victory in Warden Arena, concluding the 2017 Rollins Volleyball Senior Day on a high note. The five-set win at home marked the second straight season the Tars have taken down Barry in Warden Arena on senior day. To conclude their 2016 home schedule, the Tars defeated Barry on November 19 by a score of 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-13).
