SET-UP:
The ninth-ranked Tars enter into Sunday night's showdown with
Stonehill riding a two-game win streak, most recently defeating
Wheeling Jesuit by a final score of 19-5 on Friday night at Barker
Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.
The 18th ranked Stonehill Skyhawks open their 2017
campaign on Sunday against the Tars. The Skyhawks recently checked
in at No. 18 on the first IWLCA Division II Poll of the season, and
were given the nod at fifth on the Northeast-10 Conference
preseason poll, selected by the league's 14 head coaches.
Stonehill, under the direction of Stonehill Athletic and NE10 Hall
of Famer Katie Conover '03 in her tenth season at the helm of her
alma mater, returns nine starters and 19 letterwinners from a 2016
squad which finished with a 9-9 record overall, including 7-6 in
the NE10 for a sixth place finish and 18th Conference Tournament
appearance.
Stonehill, who concluded their 2016 campaign ranked
20th on the DII Poll with a record of 9-9, wrapped up
their season falling to Bentley by a final score of 9-8 in the
Northeast10 Tournament Quarterfinals. After their season opener
against the Tars, the Skyhawks will take on Tusculum in Davenport,
Fla.
TRACKING THE TARS:

German and Hannah
Ashton lead the team in goals so far this season with 11
apiece, while German leads the team in overall points with 19 as
she has earned a team high eight assists. Ashton is second on the
team in overall points with 12, having earned one assist so far
this season. Paige
Brock has notched nine goals so far in her sophomore campaign,
including four against Wheeling Jesuit in her last outing, while Maggie
Dougherty has tallied seven goals and two assists to match
Brock in points with nine overall. Dougherty leads the team in
ground balls with nine, followed by Jessica
Kopenhaver, Sophie
Stavisky, and Maddie
Hendren with seven apiece. Paige
Brock leads the team with 18 draw controls, followed by
Dougherty with 12. Dougherty and Lindsay
Van Beck lead the team with seven caused turnovers apiece after
five games played. In goal, Malorie
Olin leads the team, having played in all five games and
earning four starts. Olin has faced 66 total shots so far this
season, making 36 saves for a save percentage of .643. Olin has
allowed just 20 goals this season, for a goals against average of
5.66.
TRACKING THE SKYHAWKS:
Senior All-American Cara Corvino, junior All-American Kelly
Healey and senior All-Region forward Elizabeth Vetter lead the list
of returnees for Stonehill. Corvino and Healey, both All-NE10
selections last season, are key members of the Skyhawks defensive
unit, which ranked fifth in the NE10 last season with a 9.50 team
goals against average with 132 caused turnovers (9th) and 334
ground balls (4th).
Despite losing its top two scorers from 2016, Vetter leads the
list of returnees after earning All-NE10 and IWLCA All-North Region
honors with 37 points on 29 goals and eight assists, collecting 39
ground balls, a team-high 54 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers
last season. Senior Shannon Booth added 14 goals and an assist for
15 points last season, while junior Taylor Shannahan finished with
seven goals and four assists for 11 points , adding 37 ground
balls, 17 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers.
Junior goalkeepers Kaitlyn Hess and Bailey Herr return this
season after both seeing significant time in goal last season. Hess
played the majority of minutes with a 9.11 goals against average
and .381 save percentage with 5.1 saves per game in 876:08 over 16
games played (13 starts). Herr played 209:05 over six games (five
starts) with four saves per game.
NOTES:
- The Tars and Skyhawks have a long-standing rivalry dating back
to 2010, with the Tars holding onto a 4-3 series record.
- The last time out against Stonehill, the then sixth-ranked Tars
took down the then No. 9 Skyhawks in convincing fashion with a 15-4
win on March 5, 2016.

Rollins returns to action on Thursday, March 9, when they host
Limestone at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field. Game
