SET-UP:
The seventh-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team makes the trek north to Sparks, Md. to play a pair of non-conference games at the home of US Lacrosse at Tierney Field. The Tars are coming off a huge 16-3 win over Belmont Abbey, which saw their overall record improve to 8-2 on the year. Rollins had a balanced attack throughout the game, scoring eight goals in both halves. Standout performances on the offensive helped the Tars dominate Belmont Abbey. Hannah Ashton and Brittany Eveler both had four goals apiece, while Kallie German and Maggie Dougherty tallied four assists each. The Tars defense also had a stellar night, only allowing three goals on 18 shots, which helped Malorie Olin capture SSC Defensive player of the week honors.

Shepherd University is coming off its first win of the season against Northern Michigan, 16-9. In their first win, Junior Midfielder Courtney Matthews had four goals and two assists, while Brooke Hunley added another four goals, and a single assist on the night. The Shepherd University Rams will be looking for their second win of the season against Rollins on Friday , March 24.

The Grand Valley State Lakers have had anything but an easy schedule to start their 2017 campaign. The Lakers are 1-5 on the season but have only faced ranked opponents in competition, with four of those opponents ranked in the top three at the time of competition. Most recently, the Lakers fell to No. 2 Lindenwood by a final score of 14-6 on Thursday afternoon.

TRACKING THE TARS:
Leading the team in total points after 10 games is Kallie German with 45. She has tallied 24 goals and 21 assists on the season, while Hannah Ashton has also scored 24 goals, and chipped in two assists for 26 points. Paige Brock has tallied 18 goals, followed by Brittany Eveler with 16, and Maggie Dougherty with 12. The Tars are led by goalie Malorie Olin who has scooped up 18 ground balls on the year. Olin is closely followed by Sophie Stavisky, who has collected 17 groundballs, and three different Tars have collected 13 on the year. Off the draw, Dougherty has won a team high 27, followed closely by Paige Brock with 23. Defensively, Lindsay Van Beck leads the team with 11 caused turnovers, followed by German and Maddie Hendren with eight each. Olin has seen a total of 512 minutes in cage, earning 73 saves on 155 shots faced for a save percentage of .570. The junior has allowed just 55 goals, averaging 6.44 per game.

TRACKING THE RAMS:

The Rams are led by Brooke Hunley who has compiled 19 points on the season, with 17 goals and two assists. Courtney Matthews and Haley Price both have 12 goals and four assists on the year, good for 16 points each. Casey Hickman leads the Rams with 16 groundballs on the year, while Hannah Russo and Anna Munfors each have collected 11. Off the draw, Hunley has won a team best 17, followed by Courtney Schwiegerath with 12. Defensively, Lyric Feingold-Conaway has caused seven turnovers to lead the Rams. Hickman has played and started in all seven games for the Rams, tallying 420 minutes, allowing 97 goals on 108 shots faced with 65 saves.

TRACKING THE LAKERS:

The Lakers top scorer Meghan Datema has tallied 11 goals so far this season, followed by Abbi O'Neal with nine goals and one assist for 10 points. Dishing out the assists are Casey Bishop and Ashley Bailey, with three apiece. Kira Dosenberry leads the team in ground balls with 15, while O'Neal has won a team best 12 draw controls. Defensively, Datema, O'Neal, and Dosenberry have caused five turnovers apiece. Between the pipes, both Sarah Zwilsky and Brianna Demilia have split time this season. Zwilsky has faced 87 shots with 25 saves, and allowed 40 goals for an average of 13.33 goals a game. DeMilia has faced 72 shots with 17 saves, and allowed 36 goals for an average of 18 goals per game.

NOTES:

  • Rollins squares up against Shepherd University on Friday, March 24, taking on the Rams for the third time in program history. The Tars, who hold onto a 2-0 series record, last took on the Rams on April 17, 2015 where they earned an easy 25-16 victory.
  • This is the first time in official competition that Grand Valley State and Rollin's will meet
  • Rollins is outscoring it's opponents 133-71 in 10 games this season
  • These two games will be the Tars' first neutral site games of the season, and marks the first time the team will play at the home of US Lacrosse.
  • Sunday's game against the Tars will mark the seventh time that Grand Valley State has taken on a ranked opponent this season, four of which were ranked within the top three at the time of competition.
