Rollins Falls to Barry in Five on the Road

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (October 6, 2017) – Rollins made its longest trip of the season Friday, visiting Barry in Miami Shores and falling 3-2 in a five-set thriller. After taking the first two sets 25-14 and 25-18, the Tars couldn't close out the Bucs and lost the next three, 25-22, 25-19, 15-9.

The loss drops Rollins to 4-8 overall and 3-5 in Sunshine State Conference play while Barry improves to 5-3, 3-3.

Bri Civiero had a big day, leading the team with 15 kills and 16 digs. Shannon McDonough and Mary Bethany Vincent each tallied 10 kills while McDonough added 12 digs and four blocks. Cassidy Cason also racked up big numbers with 39 assists and 12 digs on the night. Sam Schlesman totaled eight blocks to lead the Tars at the net.

As a team, Rollins hit .145, rolled up seven service aces and had 12 total blocks.

Jaeda Allen led the way for the Bucs with 14 kills and 10 digs. Brittany Reyonlds and Kristina Filimonova both racked up 10 kills while Filimonova added eight blocks. Alexis Boutin and Juliana Tirabassi each had 13 digs to lead the way.

COACH ROBINSON'S THOUGHTS:
"Tonight's match was a streaky one for both teams. At times, we played really well both offensively and defensively, but credit Barry for battling their way back into the match and executing very well in set 5."

NOTES:

  • Bri Civiero earned her fourth consecutive double-double, and her sixth on the season.
  • Rollins is now 1-1 in five-set matches this season, having beat Eckerd on the road in five earlier in the year.
  • Friday marked the second-straight time Rollins and Barry have gone to five with the Tars winning on Senior Day of last year.
  • Rollin sis now 25-36 all-time against the Buccaneers.
  • The Tars have won three of their last five; all in SSC play.
