McDonough Leads Tars with 15 Kills


DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 31, 2017) – Senior Shannon McDonough led the Tars on the night with 15 kills as the Rollins volleyball team was edged by Embry Riddle in Sunshine State Conference action, 3-0 (22-25, 20-25, 18-25).  The loss dips the Tars to a record of 8-14, and 5-10 in SSC action, while the Eagles advance to 12-9 and 7-8 against SSC opponents.

Behind McDonough's match high 15 kills, Rachel Fletcher earned eight, while Sam Schlesman and Leslie Seda had three apiece.  Cassidy Cason amassed 27 assists on the night, earning a setting percentage of .844.  The Tars earned three service aces, as Fletcher, Schlesman, and Rebecca Wilson each earned one on the night.  Wilson led the team in digs with 12, followed by Fletcher with six, Seda with five, and McDonough with four.  At the net, the Tars put up 12 total blocks as a team, led by McDonough with four, and Schlesman with three, including one solo block.

The Eagles were led by Theresa Jordan with 11 kills, followed by Melanie Canfield with 10.  Alyssa Rudd amassed 27 assists to match Cason on the night.  The Eagles tallied five service aces as a team, led by Canfield with a match best three.  Olivia Roa earned a team best 17 digs, followed by Jordan with 10 for a double-double.  The Eagles put up eight blocks as a team, led by Ella Duggan with four, including a match high two solo blocks.

"We made too many unforced errors tonight, and Embry-Riddle did a nice job of keeping the pressure on us."

NOTES:

  • The last time Rollins and Embry-Riddle met on the court was back on Tuesday, September 26, in Warden Arena.  The Tars took down the Eagles by a final score of 3-0 (30-28, 25-14, 25-20).
  • The Tars trail the series with Embry-Riddle, 5-10.  Their win back on September 26 snapped a two-match skid against Embry-Riddle.
  • The match was tied 18 times and saw six different lead changes
