McDonough Earns 14th Double-Double of the Season
Melbourne, Fla. (October 24, 2017) – Without one of their primary pin hitters on the floor, the Rollins volleyball team found themselves stymied by Florida Tech on Tuesday evening, falling to the Panthers by a score of 3-0 (19-25, 15-25, 19-25) in the Clemente Center.
The loss drops the Tars to a mark of 8-11 overall, and 5-7 in Sunshine State Conference action, while the Panthers advance to a record of 8-10, and 3-9 in the SSC.
Senior Shannon McDonough led the Tars in kills with 13, and added 13 digs for her 14th double-double of the year. Madison Jenkins notched seven kills on the night, followed by Sam Schlesman with three, Mary Bethany Vincent with two, and Cassidy Cason and Kerra Tirado with one apiece. Cason led the team in assists with 23, while Rachel Fletcher earned a team best 15 digs. Vincent and Schlesman led the team in blocks with four apiece.
The Panthers saw a match high 16 kills from Kelly Germain, while Tania Kottke earned nine. Kiersten Rosa amassed a match best 36 assists. Three Panthers earned double-digit dig totals, led by Kyra Atkinson with 20, while Sheila Villagrasa and Rosa notched 15 and 10, respectively. Olivia Hersey led the team with three blocks, followed by Rosa and Samantha Reeves with two apiece.

"Florida Tech played more aggressively and relentlessly than we did tonight, and we never found our rhythm. We will get back to work tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Set One: The Panthers opened up to a 7-2 lead and never looked back, leading by as much as 10, 16-6. The Tars battled back to pull to within four, 23-19, but FIT secured the final two points to take the first set, 25-19.
- Set Two: Florida Tech pulled out to a 5-1 advantage, but the Tars answered back with four straight to tie the set at 5-5. The Panthers rattled off five unanswered to take a 10-5 lead, and held onto a 10 point advantage late in the set, 20-10. Despite Rollins' best efforts, Florida Tech secured the 25-15 victory in the second set to take a 2-0 match lead.
- Set Three: Rollins began the third set with a five point lead, 10-5, but FIT outscored the Tars 6-1 in the following plays to knot the score at 11-11. The score was tied one final time at 12-12 before Florida Tech took the lead and never looked back, extending their advantage to as much as seven, 23-16. Rollins outscored the Panthers in the final plays, 3-2, but FIT was able to secure match point with a 25-19 final score in the third set.
NOTES:
- McDonough notched her 17th match with double-digit kills, and has posted 16 straight with double-digit kill counts.
- McDonough earned her 14th double-double of the season.
- Rollins played without Bri Civiero for the first time this season
- Civiero is only six digs away from notching her 1000th of her career.
