Rollins Unable to Sweep Tritons on the Season
WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 27, 2017) – Sophomore outside hitter Madison Jenkins earned a career high in kills in a game, and notched her first career double-double as the Tars fell to Eckerd College by a final score of 3-1 (17-25, 27-25, 19-25, 20-25) on Friday night in Warden Arena. The loss drops the Tars to a mark of 8-12, and 5-8 in Sunshine State Conference action, while the Tritons advance to 12-8 and 5-7 against SSC opponents.
Senior Shannon McDonough led the team in kills, and notched her 15th double-double of the season as she earned a season high 17 kills and added 13 digs. Madison Jenkins had a career day, posting a career best 12 kills and adding 15 digs for the first double-double of her career. Leslie Seda and Rachel Fletcher matched Jenkins in digs with 15, while Cassidy Cason led the team in assists with 39. Mary Bethany Vincent was solid on defense, posting up the team's three total solo blocks, and adding five assisted blocks for eight total on the night. Both Jenkins and Cason earned one service ace apiece.
The Tritons were led by Paula Hoffmann with 18 kills, while Fernanda Reis notched a match high 46 assists. Reis also led the team with 22 digs, followed by Hoffman with 16, and Arielle Erillo with 11. Eckerd notched six service aces as a team, led by Erillo and Kaitlyn Sibson with two each. At the net, Stephanie Karlovics led the team with six total blocks.
COACH ROBINSON'S THOUGHTS:
"Overall, Eckerd won the serve and pass game, but I was very proud of how hard we battled tonight. We played much more relentlessly than we did earlier in the week. If we can continue to make the progress each day that we did this week, we will finish the season strong."
NOTES:
- McDonough notched a new season high in kills with 17
- McDonough notched her 18th match with double-digit kills, and has posted 17 straight with double-digit kill counts.
- McDonough earned her 15th double-double of the season.
- Jenkins notched a new career high in kills in a game with 12, and earned the first double-double of her career.
- Rollins is now 54-23 in the all-time series against Eckerd.
- The last time the Tritons defeated the Tars was on November 15, 2016, when the earned a 3-2 win over Rollins.
