ANCHORAGE, Alaska (September 2, 2016) - Squaring up against 19th-ranked University of Arkansas - Fort Smith in its season opener, the Rollins volleyball team put up a valiant effort but were silenced by the Lions, 3-0 (19-25, 16-25, 21-25). The match marked the first time the two teams met on the court, as well as the first for the Tars under the guidance of new head coach Mika Robinson.

Junior Rebecca Wilson led the team in digs with 17, while newcomer Cassidy Cason earned a team high 30 assists in her collegiate debut. Junior MaryBethany Vincent posted a team best four blocks, including two solo stops.

The Lions, who advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament quarterfinals a year ago, were led by Kennedi Coleman with 13 kills. Erin Black led UAFS with 22 assists, while Emily Tripp and Marika Stiles earned 23 and 10 digs, respectively.

NOTES:

· The score was tied nine times throughout the match, including five occasions in the second set.
