Tars Succumb to No. 14 Seawolves in Straight Sets

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (September 2, 2016) - Facing their second Top-25 team in as many games, the Rollins volleyball team put up a good fight, but were unable to overpower an established No. 14 Alaska Anchorage squad on Friday at the Alaska Airlines Center. The Tars, who fell to the Seawolves by a final score of 3-0 (17-25, 11-25, 19-25), fall to 0-2 after some stiff competition to open their season, while an experienced UAA squad advances to 4-1.

Leading the way for Rollins were Bri Civiero and Rachel Sawyer, who earned nine kills apiece. Freshman Cassidy Cason earned 24 assists, while Rebecca Wilson led the squad in digs with 21. MaryBethany Vincent, R. Sawyer, Sam SChlesman, and Shannon McDonough all contributed blocks on the day.

The Seawolves were led by Leah Swiss and Diana Fa'amausili, who posted 12 kills apiece. Morgan Hooe led the team with 29 assists, while Kyla Militante-Amper led the team with 21 digs. Alaska Anchorage put up seven team blocks, with Chrisalyn Johnson and Erin Braun leading the way with four block-assists apiece.

NOTES:

· The Tars played their second match in six hours against a nationally ranked foe

· The score was tied 14 times throughout the match, including eight occasions in the first set, and six times in the third set.

· The match saw a total of six lead changes, with three in the first set, and three in the third.

· The Tars earned their longest run of the match in the final set, posting three straight points to pull to within three of the host Seawolves, 22-19.

COACH ROBINSON'S THOUGHTS:

"Even though the outcome was not what we had hoped it would be, I am proud of the way our team continued to battle today. We played two solid teams today that will greatly help us in the weeks to come. Our execution will continue to improve."
