WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 8, 2016) - The Tars struggled to get the bats going against Florida Southern. Rollins managed only one run on one hit, falling to the Mocs 10-1 on senior night. The loss drops Rollins record to 20-15 overall, while the Tars fall to 5-8 in Sunshine State Conference play. Florida Southern improves to 24-8 on the year, and 7-3 in SSC action.

Skip Kovar went 1-2, tallying the Tars lone hit of the evening. Mike Purcell scored the Rollins run; he was driven in by Mike Dolan. The star of the game for the Tars was centerfielder Peter Nicoletto. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native made a number of spectacular catches in the outfield.

Rollins sent three pitchers to the mound. Brian Auerbach was credited with the loss. The righty threw six innings, giving up six runs, and striking out two. Brooks Norton came in to pitch one inning, surrendering three runs, only two earned. Anthony Trovato closed out the final two frames for Rollins, giving up a run, and striking out three.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first three frames due to dominant pitching and stellar defense. Florida Southern got on the board first in the top of the fourth, then followed it up with another score in the top of the fifth. Rollins broke through in the bottom of the frame when Purcell scored on a Dolan groundout.

The game remained a 2-1 pitchers duel until the top of the seventh when the Mocs pulled away, sending seven runners across home plate. Florida Southern scored again in the eighth. It was not until the bottom of the frame that Kovar singled up the middle, ending the no-hit bid.

The Tars and the Mocs will return to action tomorrow with a double-header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
