ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: The Tars lost their series
against Florida Southern, but managed to salvage a game against the
No. 22 Mocs. Dominant pitching led Florida Souther to a 10-1
victory in game one. The Tars won a thriller in game two, capturing
a 5-3 victory. The Mocs proved too much in the finale winning
9-2. Roliins record now sits at 21-16 while the Tars are 6-9 in
the SSC.
Rollins holds the second highest team batting average in the
conference hitting a combined .341 on the season. Grant
Ashline is pacing the Tars individually, hitting .417 on the
year. Tyler
Fairbanks and Mike
Purcell are on his heels batting .409 and .401 respectively.
Christopher
Corbett's 44 RBI are second in the conference. Peter
Nicoletto leads the Tars with eight homeruns.
Mike
Gaughan spearheads the Tars with a 2.51 ERA in 28.2 innings
pitched. The Walpole, Massachusetts native has earned a 1-1 record
n 13 appearances, including five starts. Senior, Matt
Hendricks has recorded one win and six saves for the Tars in 17
appearances.
Jon
Sjogren, Ed.D. enters his 11th season at the helm of the Tars'
baseball program in 2016 and brings with him a career record of
629-556-5 over 25 years into this season.
Sjogren was
hired in July 2005 and became just the fifth head coach in the
Tars' illustrious history. Through ten seasons with Rollins, he
has compiled a record of 270-251-3.
NOVA SOUTHEASTERN AT A GLANCE: The No. 25
Sharks saw their 12 game winning streak halted at the hands of
Division I top-ranked Miami in a midweek contest. Prior to that
game Nova Southeastern had swept SSC opponents Barry and Saint Leo,
along with provisional SSC member Palm Beach Atlantic. The streak
started when the Sharks took a two games to one series victory over
the then No. 1 Tampa Spartans. The Sharks currently sit at 25-12
overall and 11-4 in the SSC.
Brandon Gomez leads the Nova Southeastern offense. The junior
outfielder is batting .343 on the season and leads the team with 12
homeruns. On the mound Devin Raftery has amassed a 1.26 ERA in 17
relief appearances, recording one win and 8 saves.
Greg Brown enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Nova
Southeastern University Sharks in 2016, producing a career record
of 168-82. In 2015, Brown led the NSU to its first ever Sunshine
State Conference Championship. He was named the 2015 SSC and
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Region Coach
of the Year.
LAST MEETING: The Tars picked up a series
opening 4-2 win over the then No. 4 Sharks last season, before
falling in the final two games of the series.
NEXT UP FOR ROLLINS: Rollins will return to
South Florida on Friday, April 22 to take on the Barry Buccaneers.
