TAMPA, Fla. (April 29, 2016) - The Rollins
College softball team defeated Tampa in the opening game of their
weekend series, 5-2, on a beautiful Friday night. With the win,
senior pitcher Niki
Fogle breaks the Rollins program record for career wins with
104.
The Tars improve to 36-13-1 on the year and 16-6 in the SSC
while Tampa drops to 17-20 overall and 9-13 in conference.
Hailee
Keisling got things started as the junior first basemen singled
in the top of the first before being advanced to second on a
sacrifice bunt by Jule
Kranz. Keisling then stole third, but scored on the play after
a throwing error by the catcher to give the Tars a 1-0 lead.
Tampa regained the lead in the bottom half of the first as the
Spartans scored two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Tars
responded in the next inning as Sid
Masso sent a two-run single to center field scoring Brittany
Johnson and Courtney
Durbin.
Tiffany
Osmanski walked in the top of the third before Johnson and
Durbin hit back-to-back doubles to put the Tars up 5-2. That is all
Fogle needed in the circle as the senior pitcher went seven innings
allowing five hits, no earned runs, two walks while striking out
two in her record setting day.
Rollins returns to action tomorrow as they complete the weekend
series against Tampa with a doubleheader. Game one is slated to
