NOTES: The sixth-ranked Rollins women's
lacrosse team has started their 2016 campaign on a strong note,
posting five straight wins including two over nationally-ranked
opponents. The Tars will look to continue their win streak, and
are set to host Slippery Rock University in a Friday night
matchup. The game time against the Rock is slated for 6 p.m. Fans
who are unable to make it to the game will be able to catch all of
the action live on the Geico Tars Sports Network on
RollinsSports.com.
ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: After overpowering the
14th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals by a
score of 12-5 on Monday evening, the Tars now prepare to face
Slippery Rock University on Friday, March 11.
Rollins enters into Friday's game with a mark of 5-0 overall,
and have taken down their opponents by at least a seven point
differential this season. Leading the team so far is senior Tyler
Thomas, who has scored a team best 17 goals and has three
assists for a team high of 20 points this season. Thomas has become
the program's all-time leader in goals scored with 163 career
goals.
Kallie
German has tallied 12 goals and four assists in her freshman
campaign, while Kris
Coppolino has contributed nine goals and three assists. German
has also contributed a team best of 13 ground balls on the season,
while Coppolino has caused a team high seven turnovers.
In goal for the Tars, Malorie
Olin as faced a total of 67 shots. The sophomore has allowed
only 20 goals so far this season, averaging 4.13 goals allowed per
game, and has made 35 saves for a save percentage of .636 in five
contests. Olin has also earned 13 groundballs to match German, and
caused three turnovers this season.
The Tars are coached by Dennis
Short. The Spring of 2015 marks the ninth season for Head Coach
Dennis
Short, posting a record of 52-17 over the last four seasons,
including a pair of trips to the NCAA National Semifinals. He is
assisted by Tom
Kienle, Mike
Tobin, as well as former Tars standouts Chelsea
Pinneke and Alley
Rhinehart.
SLIPPERY ROCK AT A GLANCE: Entering into
Friday night's matchup with a record of 2-0, the Rocks look for
their next win of the season. The Rock opened their season with a
23-10 win over Shorter University, and are coming off of an 18-10
victory over Young Harris on Tuesday evening. Friday evening's
matchup against the Tars will mark the Rock's third matchup in six
days.
Kaytlin Callaghan and Erin Wilcox lead the team in goals with
eight, and have each tallied two assists for a team high ten points
apiece. They are followed by Jordan Chan, who has tallied four
goals and one assist for five points, and Dannie Wilson, who has
earned five points with two goals and three assists. Leading the
team in ground balls and caused turnovers is Wilcox with eight and
six, respectively.
In goal for Slippery Rock, Jordan Wagner has seen a total of 90
minutes in cage in two contests. The senior has allowed 14 goals,
averaging 9.33 per game, and has earned nine saves on 28 shots
faced, earning a save percentage of .391.
The Rock are coached by Emily Hopkins as she enters her ninth
season as the head lacrosse coach at Slippery Rock University in
2016. In her first eight seasons, Hopkins took a Rock program that
went 0-17 in 2008 to a school record for wins in a single season
with a 12-5 record in 2012. She owns a 46-38 record since 2011 and
is 58-77 overall in her career. She is assisted by Tommy
Kelly.

time the Tars and the Rocks will match up on the field.
