NOTES:
-
McDonough rattled off her 14th straight match with a
double-digit kill count.
-
The match marked the second straight year the Tars have taken
down the Wolves in straight sets at the South Region Crossover.
-
Rollins opened up the match with two quick scores, but the
Wolves answered back with four straight to take a 4-2 lead early
on. The Tars were not about to back down, and it was a
back-and-forth battle over the ensuing points that saw the score
tied four times and two lead changes leading up to West Georgia
holding onto a 16-13 advantage. The Tars then rattled off nine
straight points, a new season high, to take a 22-16 lead before UWG
broke the run with a timeout. Despite the Wolves battling back and
outscoring the Tars 6-3 in the final plays, the Tars claimed Set 1,
25-22.
-
Set 2 began much like Set 1, and Rollins found themselves
trailing early on. Trailing by two, 11-9, The Tars posted a second
set streak of six straight points to pull out to a 15-11 lead and
extended their advantage out to as much as six points to close out
the second frame with a final score of 25-18.
-
Rollins again trailed mid-way through the third set, with the
Wolves holding onto a 12-10 lead. But the Tars rallied off six
straight points to take a 16-12 lead, and then closed out the match
with seven consecutive points to wrap up Set 3 with a final score
of 25-15.
-
Throughout the four sets, the score was tied 37 times, including
15 times in Set 1, and 11 times in Set 2.
-
The lead changed hands throughout the match on 15 occasions,
including five times in Set 1.
COACH ROBINSON'S THOUGHTS:
"I was proud of the resilience we showed tonight after dropping
a close one to an aggressive Lee team early in the day. We
challenged them to improve our serving and passing, and we
definitely did a much better job with those first contacts
tonight."
