WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 4, 2015) - The Rollins volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback (25-16, 25-17, 25,19) to the Northern State University Wolves on Friday night in Warden Arena to put the first day of the 2015 Rollins Invitational in the books.

The Wolves advance to 2-0 on their young season, while the Tars kick off their 2015 campaign with a mark of 1-1.

Shannon McDonough led the Tars with a double-digit kill effort, posting a hit percentage of .263. Bri Civiero was close behind with nine kills on the evening, adding 10 digs to her evening performance.

Senior setters April Jackson and MaryEllen Pole posted 17 and 16 digs, respectively, with Jackson adding four digs, and Pole getting six.

Freshman Rachel Sawyer continued to make a mark in her debut, posting seven kills and seven digs on the night.

The Tars were unable to find their rhythm against the Wolves in the first two sets, but bounced back in the third set which saw a total of three lead changes and the score tied 11 times. Rollins held on throughout the initial portion of the set, leading by a score of 13-11 after a service ace by Pole, but a five point rally by Northern State pulled them ahead by three, 16-13, and the Tars were unable to full bounce back for the remainder of the final frame.

The Wolves were led by Kelsey Chambers who posted 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .400. Chambers was one dig shy of a double-double with nine on the night. Annika van Oosbree led Northern State in digs with 12 on the night.

The Rollins Invitational will continue for the Tars on Saturday, September 5, when Rollins takes on Spring Hill College and University of Sioux Falls. Match times are slated for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. Fans who are unable to make it to Warden Arena will be able to catch all of the action live on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
