BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 25, 2015) - Seniors Blake
Hutton went 2-for-4 with a home run while Peter
Nicoletto hit two home runs and Christopher
Corbett also went deep to give the Tars the 14-6 game one win
while Rollins came back down 8-0 to tie 11-11 in game two against
No. 25 Lynn, Saturday evening.
Rollins had 27 total hits on the day while the Tars have won
three of their last five road games and improve to 20-26-1 and
6-15-1 in the SSC. The Lynn Fighting Knights are now 31-12-1 on the
year.
Game One-- Rollins 14, No. 25 Lynn 6
Senior pitcher Seth
Brenner went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits
while striking out eight batters. Matt
Hendricks went three innings and gave up three runs (two
earned) while allowing five hits to earn his third save on the
year.
First baseman Nick
Breen went 2-for-5 while Hutton, Corbett, Philip
Burket and Alex
Miller all added two hits for the Tars. Zach
Persky, Evan
Rivera, Mike
Purcell and Nicoletto all contributed one hit giving the Tars
13 hits in game one.
In the first inning Lynn struck first picking up two runs on two
hits to give the Fighting Knights the 2-0 lead.
Rollins answered in the second inning with two outs as Peter
Nicoletto hit a three-run home run to score Miller and Persky
as the Tars had three runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the third, the Tars came through again with
two-out hitting as Blake
Hutton singled to right field and Alex
Miller doubled to left center, scoring Burket and Hutton. The
inning continued as the Tars kept the bases loaded and Miller
scored on a balk to give Rollins the 6-2 lead.
Grant
Ashline kept the bats alive in the fourth inning as the
shortstop reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. Hutton
followed through with a two-run home run, scoring Ashline as
Rollins led 8-2.
John Borup came up with a solo home run to left field as the
Fighting Knights cut the Tars lead to 8-3.
The Tars came alive in the seventh inning as Mike
Purcell pitch hit and doubled down the left field line scoring
Miller and Burket as Rollins led Lynn 10-3.
Lynn followed through with two runs off two hits in the bottom
of the seventh inning to cut the Tars lead to 10-5.
In the eighth inning, Burket hit an rbi single scoring Hutton
and Breen. Later in the inning Carlos
Garmendia hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Burket as Rollins came
up with three runs on two hits to lead Lynn 13-5.
Rollins scored once more in the ninth inning as Corbett hit his
second home run of the series to give the Tars the 14-5 lead.
The Fighting Knights scored one more run on one hit on a Tars
error as Rollins won 14-6.
Game Two-- Rollins 11, No. 25 Lynn 11
The
Tars trailed 8-0 and outscored Lynn 11-3 from the fifth inning on
to tie No. 25 Lynn 11-11. The game ended in a tie due to no lights
available at the field.
Christian
Coburn went 2-for-4 with a walk and rbi. Peter
Nicoletto went 2-for-3 with his second home run of the day
while Christopher
Corbett went 3-for-5. Michael
Dolan and Carlos
Garmendia each added a double while Alex
Miller, Nick
Breen and Zach
Persky each had singles to total 11 runs on 12 hits for the
Tars.
In four innings of relief Brett
Mueller and Josh
Stewart kept Lynn from scoring until the ninth inning to help
Rollins come back in the game.
Brian
Auerbach got the start for the Tars in game two and allowed
eight runs (five earned) on 12 hits in 3.1 innings of work.
In the top of fifth inning, Corbett led off the inning with a
single and Coburn drove him in with his second hit of the game as
Rollins trailed 8-1. The inning continued as Alex
Miller singled to left and scored Coburn as the Tars cut the
Lynn lead to 8-2. Rollins loaded the bases as Miller, Garmendia and
Hutton all were on base as Miller scored on a wild pitch as the
Tars cut the lead to 8-3. Breen grounded out and scored Garmendia
while Nicoletto grounded out, scoring Hutton as Rollins scored five
runs off four hits to cut the deficit to 8-5.
Third baseman Carlos
Garmendia hit an rbi double in the sixth inning, scoring Miller
as Rollins scored six unanswered runs and trailed 8-6.
Lynn came back with one run of their own in the bottom of the
sixth and retained the three run lead at 9-6.
The Tars loaded the bases in the seventh inning and Persky hit
an rbi single while Corbett drove in Nicoletto as the Tars trailed
just 9-8. The next play a wild pitch scored Michael
Dolan as Rollins tied the game, 9-9. Persky would come around
to score on a second wild pitch in the inning as the Tars led
10-9.
In the eighth inning, Peter
Nicoletto hit his second home run of the day as a solo home run
gave Rollins the 11-9 lead.
Lynn scored twice in the ninth and both teams were not able to
score as the second game ended in a 11-11 tie.
Rollins committed four errors in the second game while Lynn had
three errors.
The Tars visit No. 22 Tampa next Friday, May 1 for a three game
series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
