WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 25, 2015) The
Rollins softball team finished the regular season on a high note by
sweeping Palm Beach Atlantic in doubleheader fashion Saturday
Afternoon at Simpson Field. With the 6-1 victory in Game One, Michelle
Frew notched her 700th career victory at Rollins.
The Tars finished the day strong with an 8-0 five-inning shutout in
Game Two.
Rollins jumps up to 37-11 on the year after the victories while
Palm Bach Atlantic drops to 32-21.
Rollins started scoring right off the bat. In the first inning
Brittany
Johnson drew a walk, stole second, then scored on Jule
Kranz's single to left field to give the Tars an early 1-0
advantage. Rollins added three more in the second frame to lead 4-0
on a pair of fielder's choices compounded by an error.
Rollins tacked on another two in the fifth on Chelsea
Reed's squeeze bunt and Hannah
Horwath's RBI single up the middle. PBA managed a run in the
sixth inning but the game belonged to Rollins 6-1.
Niki
Fogle surrendered just the one run in her seven innings in the
circle in Game One and struck out nine.
Extra-base hits powered Rollins to victory in the second game of
the day. Horwath belted her fourth home run of the season with one
out in the second inning to give the Tars a 1-0 lead.
Jule
Kranz legged out an infield single in the fourth inning then
was tripled home by Courtney
Durbin to double the Tars lead, 2-0. After Durbin scored on a
passed ball, Hali
Marshall tripled to deep right center, plating pinch runner Bailey
Miller and increasing the Tars lead to 4-0.
Rollins strung together five hits in the fourth inning, scoring
four runs with two outs. Courtney
Durbin and Horwath had infield RBI singles while Osmanski drove
in the final run of the day with a double down the left field
line.
Fogle finished the day strong by twirling a three-hit shutout.
In total, Fogle allowed one earned run in twelve innings while
striking out 15 Sailfish. With two victories today, Fogle becomes
the third Tar to win 30 games in a season.
Rollins sits fourth in the South Region and awaits its
postseason fate, which will be announced later this season.
