WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 14, 2015) -
A total of 31 goals were scored on Saturday afternoon as Rollins
hosted SSC rival, Florida Southern, with the Tars falling just
short with a final score of 17-14.
With the loss, Rollins drops to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in
conference while Florida Southern improves to 3-6 and an even 1-1
in the SSC.
The Mocs outshot the Tars, 46-36, on Saturday and also collected
more ground balls, 37-31.
10 players in total scored for Rollins with Stephen
DeFlumeri, Nicholas
Schultz, Jack
Vonarb and Morgan
Baker each scoring twice. Schultz and classmate Carson
Buell each finished with a game high three assists while Alex
Petsos went 12-32 on face offs.
Dane Sorenson, the nation's active scoring leader across all
divisions, scored eight goals for the Mocs while Colin Baker added
a pair of scores and an assist for three points.
In goal, Thomas
Troiano finished with seven saves in 60 minutes while Austin
Suarez and Matt Lalli combined for four saves for FSC.
The Tars found themselves in an early hole, falling behind 5-1
in the first before a Baker score sent the game into the second
quarter with Rollins trailing, 5-2.
Rollins opened the second period with four unanswered scores by
four different players to take the lead at 6-5 with 9:49 left in
the half.
FSC came back with two more before Buell's 10th of
the year tied the game at 7-7 heading into intermission.
The third quarter proved to be the difference on Saturday as the
Mocs outscored the Tars, 6-3, in the period to open up a 13-10 lead
heading to the fourth.
FSC would extend their lead to as many as five early in the
quarter before a pair of Vonarb scores followed by Austin
Jackson's second of the season pulled Rollins back within two
with 8:24 left.
Unfortunately, that was as close as it would get the rest of the
way as the Mocs held on the rest of the way to record their first
conference win of the season.
The Tars will be back in action on Monday, March 16th
at home against St. Michaels at 7 p.m. Live stream will be
available on the Gieco Tars Sports Network on RollinsSports.com
