WINTER PARK, Fla.. (Feb. 13, 2015) - Carlos
Garmendia went 2-for-2 with a home run and Matt
Hendricks threw seven innings allowing just one run as
Rollins (3-4) defeated Bentley (0-4) 7-1 Friday evening.
The Tars move to 3-4 this season. Garmendia had two rbi's and
two runs scored, including a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Third baseman Philip
Burket also added two hits while Christian
Coburn, Blake
Hutton, Philip Nicoletto, Grant
Ashline and Chris Corbett all had one hit giving Rollins nine
on the day. Rollins did not commit any errors while Bentley
committed two and earned just four hits.
Pitcher Matt
Hendricks (2-1) picks up the win after completing seven strong
innings where he allowed just three hits and one run, while
striking out four. Adam
Ogburn and Seth
Brenner came in to pitch and allowed just one hit between the
two of them.
Rollins began in the bottom of the second inning as Grant
Ashline singled in Mike
Purcell to give the Tars the early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of
the third inning, Burket singled up the middle, driving in Hutton
as Rollins led 2-0. Purcell came to the plate and grounded out, but
scored Garmendia as the Tars led 3-0. Skip Kovar would reach on an
error by the third baseman allowing Burket to score as Rollins took
a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Garmendia hit a solo home run giving
Rollins a 5-0 edge. The Tars did not let up in the sixth as Coburn
singled through the left side advancing Corbett to second.
Garmendia picked up a single to left field scoring Corbett as
Rollins led 6-0. In the bottom of the seventh leading 6-1,
Nicoletto tripled to left center and Burket grounded out to
shortstop, scoring Nicoletto. Burket now has 12 rbi's and is
hitting .429.
The Tars left seven on base, while Bentley left four men on
base.
Rollins (3-4) continue the series against Bentley Saturday at 2
p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
