WINTER PARK, Fla.. (Feb. 15, 2015) - Philip
Burket hit a tenth inning walk-off home run as Rollins (5-4)
rallied in every inning to win 10-9 and sweep the series against
the Bentley Falcons.
Burket went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, while shortstop
Grant
Ashline went 3-for-5 and added two rbis. Christian
Coburn and Peter
Nicoletto each added two hits while Carlos
Garmendia, Blake
Hutton, Skip Kovar and Chris Corbett had one hit apiece.
Rollins put up 10 runs on 14 hits and walked five times while
Bentley earned nine runs on 12 hits and walked only two times.
Freshman pitcher Brian
Auerbach got the start for the Tars. Auerbach threw 3.2 innings
and allowed five runs on five hits and had a no decision. Adam
Ogburn and Brandon
Burgess came in for relief and allowed four runs on six hits
combined. Senior Seth
Brenner earns the win for the Tars as he threw one inning and
allowed just one hit. Brenner improves his record to 2-0.
Bentley began the first inning strong, recording five runs on
four hits and leaving no men on as the Falcons led 5-0 early.
Rollins answered with five runs of their own in the fifth inning
as Nicoletto tripled down the right field line, scoring Coburn and
Garmendia. Nicoletto scored on a wild pitch and Ashline continued
the inning with a triple of his own, scoring Kovar and Hutton.
In the sixth inning the Falcons scored three more runs on three
hits with one Rollins error contributing to the total.
The Tars once again answered in the bottom of the sixth as
Burket doubled to left center scoring Chris Corbett. Rollins
trailed 8-6 after seven innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Burket singled in Ashline, cutting
the Bentley lead to 8-7. In the bottom of the ninth with two men
out, Nicoletto was on third base as Hutton doubled to left center
scoring Nicoletto and tying the game at 9-9.
Entering extra innings Bentley did not let up as they led once
more, receiving one run on two hits and leading 9-8.
With the Tars needing a run to stay alive Chris Corbett picked
up his second home run of the season on a solo shot to left field.
Burket approached the plate with one out and picked up his second
home run of the year as Rollins walked-off for the first time this
season. Burket is now hitting .432 with a team-leading 16 hits and
15 rbis.
The Tars left nine on base, while Bentley left five men on
base.
Rollins (5-4) begin Sunshine State Conference play this Friday
in a three-game home series against Eckerd.
