MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (October 9, 2015) - After
finding themselves trailing after the first set, the puzzle pieces
finally fit into place for the Rollins volleyball team as the Tars
were able to earn a 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-17) victory over
Barry University on Friday night at the Health and Sports Center in
Miami Shores, Fla.
The victory snaps a 12-match skid for the Tars and marks their
first conference win of the season, advancing their record to 2-12,
and 1-5 in SSC play. The loss drops the Buccaneers to 5-5 and 3-3
in the SSC.
Shannon McDonough led the way on the evening with 12 kills,
followed by Bri Civiero and Rachel Sawyer with 11 apiece.
MaryEllen Pole led the squad in assists with 24, followed by April
Jackson with 16. Rebecca Wilson earned a team high 17 digs,
followed by R, Sawyer who earned a double-double as she added 13
digs to her 11 kills. Pole also earned a double-double on the
evening with 11 digs to go along with her assist count.
Defensively, MaryBethany Vincent and Kianna Dieudonné led
the charge at the net with seven and six blocks, respectively, as
Rollins earned 14 team blocks on the night en route to the Tars
earning 14 blocks as a squad for the evening.
Barry University was led by Eva Raat, who earned 16 kills on the
night. Jasmine Serna led the team with 22 assists, while Brittany
Jaco earned a match best 24 digs. Ivana Didanovic led the Bucs
with five blocks on the evening as Barry totaled 8.5 blocks total
as a team.
After dropping the first set to Barry, 25-17, the Tars battled
back to win the final three sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-17.
Rollins returns to action on Saturday, October 9, when they take
on 19th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon
in Palm Beach, Fla. Match time against the Sailfish is set for 4
