HICKORY, N.C. (March 26, 2014) - Led by a
balanced attack that included nine different goal scorers, No. 9
Rollins defeated Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday afternoon, 17-10.
The Tars improve to 6-2 while the Bears fall to 6-4.
Senior Caroline
Lamere led all goal scorers, finishing with four goals and also
added to her already team-high assist total with two. Sophomore Tyler
Thomas added three goals with a pair of assists while Kelly
Thayer, Amy
Martin and Allie
Bohan all finished with two goals each. Freshman Brittany
Eveler had her best game since the season opener, recording one
goal and two assists.
Torry Schwitkis and Hayley Beattie led L-R with two goals
apiece.
In goal, Elyse De
Lisle tied a season high with 12 saves, playing the full 60
minutes.
The Bears took an early 1-0 within the first two minutes of play
but Rollins answered back shortly after when Angelica
Perdomo scored off an assist from Lamere. It was her
12th of the season.
The Tars and L-R then traded goals over the next 10 minutes,
including Lamere's first of the day, tying the score at 3-3 at the
19:05 mark.
Ty. Thomas would then account for two straight Rollins scores,
her second and third of the day, to give the Tars a 5-3 lead
halfway through the first half.
The Bears' Schwitkis would pull L-R back within one before
Martin scored two in a row to give Rollins a 7-4 lead, their
biggest of the game at that point, at the 8:08 mark of the
half.
A pair of Bears scores would then sandwich a Thayer free
position goal to send the game into half with the Tars leading,
8-6.
Alley
Rhinehart opened the scoring in the second half, scoring a
highlight reel goal, spinning past a defender at the 8-meter and
slipped an underhand shot past L-R's goalie, again extending the
Rollins lead to three, 9-6.
Both teams would add two goals over the next eight minutes, both
Rollins scores courtesy of Lamere, making it 11-8 with a little
over 20 minutes left to play.
The Bears would again pull within two less than a minute later
before Rollins took over the game, outscoring L-R 6-2 over the
final 20 minutes, including 3-0 in the last 5:33, en route to the
win.
The Tars will take a short break before a much-anticipated
meeting with No. 3 Limestone in Gaffney, S.C. on Saturday, March
29th. Game time is set for 12 p.m. Fans that can't make
