ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 21, 2014) - The
Rollins baseball team suffered a 9-3 decision to the Eckerd Tritons
in Sunshine State Conference action at the Turley Athletic Complex
Friday night.
Rollins now drops to 12-12 on the season and 0-7 in conference
play, while Eckerd improves to 17-7 overall and 5-2 in the
league.
Sophomore Seth
Brenner was charged with the loss in 0.1 inning. Brenner
allowed six runs on three hits and walked two. Starter Matt
Hendricks received the no decision after 7.0 innings on the
mound. The righty gave up five hits and three runs.
Eckerd's Taylor Owens earned the win in 2.0 innings of work.
Owens scattered one hit and did not allow a run or walk.
A scoreless game through three innings, Rollins jumped on the
board in the top fourth with a pair of runs. A two-single by Hunter
Mayfield drove in the first run for the Tars, plating Mike
Purcell. Yuta
Okazaki scored the second run of the game on a Tyler
Fairbanks RBI single.
In the home half of the fourth, Eckerd took back a run, but not
before the Tars could extend their lead once again in the top
sixth. With two outs on the board, the EC shortstop committed a
fielding error that allowed Okazaki to reach first and Lucas
Valelly to cross the plate, 3-1.
Eckerd would tie the score in the bottom sixth and would then
score six runs in the eighth to take the series opening game from
the Tars.
Bryan
Perlmutter and Okazaki each registered two hits to lead the
Tars lineup.
The Tritons outhit the Tars 9-8 with each team committing four
errors apiece.
The three-game series against the Tritons will continue
Saturday, March 22 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
