ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 21, 2014) - The Rollins baseball team suffered a 9-3 decision to the Eckerd Tritons in Sunshine State Conference action at the Turley Athletic Complex Friday night.

Rollins now drops to 12-12 on the season and 0-7 in conference play, while Eckerd improves to 17-7 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Sophomore Seth Brenner was charged with the loss in 0.1 inning. Brenner allowed six runs on three hits and walked two. Starter Matt Hendricks received the no decision after 7.0 innings on the mound. The righty gave up five hits and three runs.

Eckerd's Taylor Owens earned the win in 2.0 innings of work. Owens scattered one hit and did not allow a run or walk.

A scoreless game through three innings, Rollins jumped on the board in the top fourth with a pair of runs. A two-single by Hunter Mayfield drove in the first run for the Tars, plating Mike Purcell. Yuta Okazaki scored the second run of the game on a Tyler Fairbanks RBI single.

In the home half of the fourth, Eckerd took back a run, but not before the Tars could extend their lead once again in the top sixth. With two outs on the board, the EC shortstop committed a fielding error that allowed Okazaki to reach first and Lucas Valelly to cross the plate, 3-1.

Eckerd would tie the score in the bottom sixth and would then score six runs in the eighth to take the series opening game from the Tars.

Bryan Perlmutter and Okazaki each registered two hits to lead the Tars lineup.

The Tritons outhit the Tars 9-8 with each team committing four errors apiece.

The three-game series against the Tritons will continue Saturday, March 22 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
