Tars Baseball Travels to St. Petersburg for Clash with Tritons

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21, 2014) - The Rollins baseball team hits the road after a 17-game home stand for a three-game series against the Eckerd Tritons March 21-22 at the Turley Athletic Complex in St. Petersburg.

ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: Rollins has struggled in Sunshine State Conference play as they have dropped series against Lynn and, most recently, against No. 1 Tampa. The Tars enter the weekend with a record of 12-11 and sit at the bottom of the SSC standings.

In their last five contests, the Tars are 2-3 with wins over Stonehill and St. Thomas Aquinas. In their last series against the Spartans, Rollins was outscored 27-11.

At the plate, sophomore Matt Hendricks leads the Tars. The Arlington Heights, Ill. native is batting .357 with 20 hits, 11 RBI and nine runs, and is also 9-10 in stolen bases. Hendricks (2-2, 1 SV) also pitches in relief for the Tars and is second on the team with a 3.54 ERA. He is second on the team with 27 strikeouts in 28.0 innings.

Brett Flutie, who has found a permanent spot in the lineup, is batting .333 with 17 hits, 16 RBI and nine runs. Bryan Perlmutter is hitting .321 and holds a team-leading 25 hits and is second with 18 runs.

On the mound, southpaw Jack Murray leads the Tars pitching staff with a 3.06 ERA in six starts. Murray (2-2) leads with 30 strikeouts in 32.1 innings and is holding opponents to a .235 average.

ECKERD AT A GLANCE: The Tritons have been on the rise in 2014 and enter the weekend with a record of 16-6 and 4-2 in the SSC. In their last 10 games, EC is 8-2 with losses to Florida Tech and Nova Southeastern.

Eckerd is coming off a 14-3 victory over Ave Maria on Wednesday, March 19. EC outhit Ave Maria 16-9 Mike Vavasis leading the day with three hits.

On the season, Mike Abraham leads the Tritons with a .366 average and ties for second with 26 hits and 15 RBI. Lincoln Dunham is batting .364 with a team-leading 28 hits and is third in runs scored with 17.

On the mound, Jimmy Gutowski and Richard Cruz-Sanchez have made the most starts for the Tritons with five each. Gutowski holds a 3.00 ERA, including two complete games pitched in 36.0 innings. He also leads the team with 29 strikeouts.

The three-game series begins Friday, March 21 at 6 p.m.
