PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 7, 2014) - Rollins
led through six innings before the fourth-ranked West Florida Argos
were able to rally and score six runs to defeat the Tars 10-5
Friday night at Jim Spooner Field for the McDonald Fleming Moorhead
Law Firm Opening Weekend.
Tars starter Isaiah
Sakany had a rough start as he allowed three Argos run in the
opening frame. Sakany finally settled and held UWF scoreless until
the fourth inning after Garrett Flynn scored on a wild pitch.
Sakany was then pulled and received the no decision.
After a scoreless first inning for the Tars, Rollins put up four
runs in the second inning for a one-run advantage over the Argos.
Designated hitter Matt
Hendricks got the ball rolling as he led off with a base hit to
right. With a Hunter
Mayfield walk, followed by a Bryan
Perlmutter double, Hendricks and Mayfield were able to score to
put the Tars on the board.

Nicoletto and Bryan
Perlmutter scored the Tars' next two runs on a Zach
Persky hit and a UWF throwing error.
In the top of the sixth, Hunter
Mayfield scored his second run of the night on a RBI single by
Evan
Rivera to give the Tars a 5-4 lead. Mayfield finished the
night 2-for-3 with a double and stolen base.
No. 4 West Florida rallied in the home half of the seventh to
tie the score at 5-5. In the bottom eighth, UWF scored five runs
on the Tars to win 10-5. The Argos out-hit Rollins 9-8 and
committed one less error (2-1).
Benny
Ely (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Rollins in one inning of
work as he gave up all five runs in the eighth. UWF's Walker
O'Connor earned the win in 5.0 innings on the bump. He fanned a
game-high five, allowed no walks and scattered one hit.
Game 2 of the three-game series will continue on Saturday, Feb.
