No. 5 Limestone Too Much for Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 23, 2014) - Rollins started strong on Sunday afternoon but ultimately, No. 5 Limestone was too much as the Tars suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Saints by a final of 17-8.

Rollins falls to 2-1 with fifth-ranked Limestone improving to 4-0.

Freshman Carson Buell led the Tars with two goals while Jack Vonarb finished with a goal and two assists. Five others also recorded a goal in the contest including Joshua Jenks and Andrew Matthews who scored their first as Tars.

Vinny Ricci led the Saints with four scores and Joshua Jackson added three. Attacker Todd Nakasuji finished with two goals and four assists.

In goal. Andrew Sheerin was credited with his first loss of the year, collecting eight saves in just over 51 minutes. Freshman Thomas Troiano played the final eight and a half minutes, allowing four goals and picked up a save.

The first quarter on Sunday was all Rollins, jumping out to a 3-1 advantage. Buell struck first and after a Saint goal tied it at 1-1, Buell scored again followed by A.J. Gogan score to give the Tars the two-goal lead.

Unfortunately, it was all Saints after that, as they came back with nine answered goals over the next quarter and a half to take a 10-3 with 2:40 left in the third.

Rollins battled to the end of the quarter, Vonarb found the net with 40 seconds left in the period, and into the fourth, scoring four more times in the final quarter, but Limestone answered with seven of their own to stay undefeated, ending in a final of 17-8.

The Tars will be back in action on Saturday, March 1st when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to open SSC play at Florida Southern. Fans that can't make it to the game can follow live stats at RollinsSports.com
