Rollins Hosts Star-Studded Field for Thanksgiving Tournament

Glenn Wilkes Jr. put together possibly the most challenging field in event history as the Tars are set to host the 2014 Rollins Thanksgiving Tournament. The 14th-ranked Tars will face South Region foe Tuskegee to open play while a pair of unbeatens clash in the nightcap with No. 4 Lewis and St. Edward's meeting at Warden Arena. The consolation and championship games are both set for Saturday afternoon. Fans can watch all the action live on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.

NO. 14 ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: The Tars are 4-0 for the second time in three years and are seeking their first 5-0 start to the year since the 2010-11 season. Rollins is coming off a 67-34 thrashing of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras at the beginning of the week. Eleven different players scored for Rollins. Jen Farrell and Julia Ingler each netted 10 while Ashley Losch put up nine points, eight rebounds and two blocks. All 14 players in uniform saw at least 10 minutes of floor time.

Emmalee Schill is the lone Tars averaging in double-figures and ranks seventh in the Sunshine State Conference with 14.0 points a game. The senior also sits second in the league with 9.3 boards a night. Freshman Julia Ingler and senior Ashley Losch are each netting 9.3 a game with Cassidy Bailey and Jen Farrell both posting 6.5 points a night. The Tars are scoring 68.2 points per night and allowing just 54.8. Rollins also owns a plus-10 rebounding margin.

Glenn Wilkes Jr. (Stetson '81) is in his 29th year leading the Tars and owns a career record of 632-205. He is the eighth-winningest active coach in Division II and has the fourth most victories. All-time in Division II, Wilkes ranks as the 13th winningest and ninth in total victories.

TUSKEGEE AT A GLANCE: The Golden Tigers have dropped their first four to begin the year, losing by an average of 34 points a contest. Florida will be the third different state Tuskegee has played in with this weekend serving as part of an eight-game road swing to start the season.

Tuskegee heads to Winter Park after a 100-49 loss at Columbus State on Nov. 24. The Golden Tigers fell behind 57-17 by halftime and weren't able to gain any ground in the second half. Chelsea Azore led the way with 16 points and five rebounds while Rachel Brownlee posted nine points and four rebounds.

Brownlee leads the season box score with 13.8 points per game, including a 26-point outburst against Paine. Azore is getting 10.0 points a night while Vanessa Akara is putting up 7.8 points and 6.3 rebounds a game.

Tarsha Askew took over the reigns of the Tuskegee program in 2013 and is in her second season leading the Golden Tigers after serving as an assistant coach the 12 pervious years. She posted a 17-11 record last season.

NO. 4 LEWIS AT A GLANCE: The Flyers have been a juggernaut this season, clicking off three exhibition wins over Division I competition and then rolling through the first three games of the regular season. Lewis beat Loyola (83-61), Northern Illinois (60-49) and Marquette (75-72) to set the tone for its year. They have won their three regular season games by an average of 24 points.

The Flyers' last time out was a 101-62 win over Upper Iowa on Nov. 22. Alexus Grayer led the way with 24 points while Jamie Johnson posted 22. Mariyah Brawner-Henly added 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Johnson leads the offense on the season, pouring in 19.7 points a night. Grayer is netting 17.3 a game and Brawner-Henly gets 17 a night while also averaging 14.7 rebounds a game.

Lisa Carlsen is in her eighth season leading the Flyers and is 120-86 at the helm of the program. She has led Lewis to a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference championships and three NCAA Tournament berths.

ST. EDWARD'S AT A GLANCE: The Hilltoppers come to Winter Park with a 3-0 record, beating Fort Lewis, Huston-Tillotson and Paul Quinn College. Their last action was a close 65-56 exhibition loss to Division I Stephen F. Austin on No. 25.

Against Paul Quinn, Essence Sauls led the way with 17 points while Amiee Durbidge and Jamie Kadlecek each netted 11. St. Edward's beat PQC 63-21 on the glass and forced 23 turnovers.

Lexie Fatheree is the top scorer for St. Edward's, putting up 14.7 points a game. Mileka Loydrake adds 14 points while Sauls averages 10.5 a game. Durbidge and Kathleen Brisbane are the top rebounders with six a night as the Hilltoppers are beating opponents by an average of 16 boards a game.

J.J. Riehl is in her third season leading the Hilltoppers and last year, guided St. Edward's to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. She previously served as the Hilltoppers assistant coach for 10 seasons.

THE SERIES: Rollins is 1-0 all-time against Tuskegee. The only meeting between the two schools was Feb. 20, 1988, a 98-86 Rollins victory in Winter Park. The Tars are also 1-0 against St. Edward's after an 85-66 home win on Dec. 3, 1998. Rollins dropped its only game against Lewis, 67-58 on Dec. 17, 1997 in Winter Park.
