MELBOURNE, Fla. (October 3, 2014) - Jessica
Wilson (Winter Haven, Fla.) led the Rollins volleyball team
(9-5, 3-2) with 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage as the Tars
won in five sets over Florida Tech 25-7, 25-16, 22-25, 21-25,
15-13.
For the fourth straight match the Tars went five sets, and for
the third time they won the match. Rollins also delivers $14 to The
Finley Project courtesy of the team's 56 kills, in which the team
announced Monday they would donate .25 cents for every kill in the
month of October.
Collyn
Welsch (Gainesville, Fla.) led the Tars with 26 digs, while
junior setter MaryEllen
Pole (Ocala, Fla.) led the Tars with 22 assists. Shannon
McDonough (Orlando, Fla.) added 13 kills and Bri
Civiero (Mount Dora, Fla.) had eight kills, nine digs and five
blocks. Jenny
Ceballos (Miami, Fla.) had seven kills and 11 digs. As a team,
Rollins hit .152, had 85 digs and 54 assists.
Florida Tech's Kim Juriga and Marilyn Dick each had 10 kills,
while Milli Tapuskovic added nine kills. Cheyanne Kauffman led the
Panthers with 21 digs, while Ashtin Truesdale came up with 11 digs
and 18 assists. As a team, Florida Tech hit .060, had 64 digs and
37 assists.
Set 1: The Tars led the first set 17-4 after only having one
hitting error. Shannon McDonough had seven kills, while the team
hit an incredible .462 (13 kills to one error). Rollins went on to
win the first set 25-7.
Set 2: Rollins trailed early in the set, 5-1 but a kill by
McDonough brought the Tars back as the team won nine of the next 11
points. The Tars pulled away at 17-15 on a kill by Jessica Wilson.
The Tars won the set 25-16. Rollins hit .222 in the set while
holding Florida Tech to a .059 hitting percentage.
Set 3: The Tars fell behind by as much as 12-5 and could not
regroup as the team committed twice as many errors in this set as
they had combined in the previous two. The Tars hit .044 in this
set and had 12 errors.
Set 4: After leading 17-15, the Panthers came back to win the
set 25-21 thanks to three straight hitting errors by the Tars,
which gave FIT the lead at 19-18. Florida Tech held Rollins to a
-.027 hitting percentage as the Tars hit 10 errors and just nine
kills.
Set 5: Tied at 8-all the Tars won the next three points to take
an 11-8 lead. The Panthers managed to tie the set at 13-all but a
block error on Cassidy Ziech and an attack error by Marilyn Dick
gave the Tars the 15-13 set five and match win. Rollins held
Florida Tech to a .160 percentage in the set while the Tars managed
to win the set with seven kills and just three errors.
