WINTER PARK, Fla. - On October 7, the Rollins
Volleyball team became pen pals for youth in the local Orlando
area.
The Rollins Pen Pals organization is student-led and partnered
with the Orlando Children's Church. Under this program, the
Rollins Volleyball team will become mentors for children in the
church's youth program.
As mentors, the players will write letters to their mentees on a
weekly basis. The mentee will write a letter in response, enabling
the child to better his or her reading and writing skills. By
participating in the Rollins Pen Pals program, Rollins Volleyball
hopes to provide emotional support and a chance for these
impoverished youth to enhance their learning. Ultimately, Rollins
Volleyball would love to meet their pen pals and hopes to
accomplish this in the spring.
Already this fall, Rollins has extended their helping hand in
the community, giving $26.50 (.25 cents per kill) to The Finley
Project.
With third place up for grabs in the Sunshine State Conference
standings, The Tars face Saint Leo on Friday Oct. 10 at 7 p.m from
the Alfond Sports Center.
