WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 16, 2014) - Jennifer
Ceballos led the Tars with 14 kills and 13 digs but Rollins
(11-8) fell to North Alabama (13-6) 25-16, 21-25, 25-16, 26-24.
Shannon
McDonough added 10 kills and six digs, while Jessica
Wilson added six kills and four blocks. MaryEllen
Pole led the Tars with 18 assists and Collyn
Welsch led the team with 18 digs, and added two assists and two
kills. Bri
Civiero added six kills, three digs and five blocks.
As a team, Rollins hit .101 had 44 kills, 63 digs and 42
assists.
North Alabama's Megan Gorey led the team with 15 kills and four
blocks. Natasha Fomina had 10 kills and Ashtyn Kapovich led the
team with 19 digs. Andrea De Leon led the team with 38 assists,
eight digs and Shantel Federick added 11 digs. The Lions had 55
digs, 42 kills and hit .147 while adding 11 blocks.
Set 1: Behind 9-6, the Tars came back with kills by McDonough
and Civiero to even the score at 9-all. Both teams traded two
points back and forth until at 21-16 when North Alabama won the
final four points off a kill by Gorey and three Rollins attack
errors. Rollins had ten kills, nine errors and hit .031.
Set 2: The Tars hit .125 in this set but won the set 25-21.
After trailing 15-10 Rollins came back after a rare kill by
MaryEllen Pole, and kills by Wilson and Ceballos to give the Tars
the 16-15 lead. Rollins trailed 21-20 but won the final five points
off kills by Wilson and McDonough, two errors by North Alabama and
a Pole service ace.
Set 3: In a tight third set the Tars tied the match and took the
lead at 11-9 off three attack errors by UNA's Megan Wadsworth. The
Tars led 12-10 after a kill by McDonough, but lost 15 of the 19
final points. UNA won eight of the final nine points off four kills
and four errors by Rollins to take the set 25-16. Rollins had six
kills and 11 errors while having a -.179 hitting percentage.
Set 4: Trailing 21-12, The Tars had a slight comeback in them
with kills by McDonough, Civiero and Ceballos to cut the UNA lead
to 22-19. At 23-19, Collyn Welsch received two rare kills followed
by two Civiero kills as Rollins tied the match at 24-all. UNA won
the final two points off a Natasha Fomina kill and attack error by
Welsch. Rollins had 15 kills and just two errors in the set, while
hitting .333.
The Tars also had 44 kills, which adds $11 to The Finley
Project. Adding the October total to $77.00.
NEXT UP FOR ROLLINS: The Tars host the SSC/GSC
Crossover Tournament Friday, October 17 and begin against Union
University at 3 p.m.
