Tars Defeat Union University in Straight Sets, 3-0

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 17, 2014) - Katlyn Sawyer led the Tars with a season-high 12 kills and a .462 hitting percentage as Rollins defeated Union University 3-0, 25-16, 25-15, 25-12.

Collyn Welsch led the Tars with 24 digs and added three assists. Chelsea Boretti and MaryEllen Pole each added 13 assists to help Rollins win in three sets.

Jennifer Ceballos added nine kills and 12 digs just missing her second straight double-double. Shannon McDonough and Jessica Wilson each had five kills. As a team, Rollins hit .292, had 44 kills, 57 digs and only 13 errors.

Mallory Baker led Union with six kills and a .267 hitting percentage. Elise Seufert led the team with 17 digs while Hannah Huguley had a double-double, 13 assists and 10 digs.

Set 1: Rollins and Union traded points until at 8-6 when Katlyn Sawyer earned a kill from Pole to give the Tars the 9-6 lead. Ceballos found a kill at 11-7 to extend the Rollins lead as the Tars won the next three points. At 16-10 Rollins won the next four points off a kill by Sawyer and attack errors on Union. The Tars won the set 25-16 off a kill by Ceballos. Rollins had 11 kills and just four errors and hit .206 in the set.

Set 2: The Tars won the first six of seven points off kills by Ceballos, Wilson, Sawyer, Dieudonne and Kate Stefanski. The Tars won the set 25-15 after winning eight of the last 13 points. Rollins hit .306 and had 16 kills and just five errors in the set.

Set 3: Rollins started the set winning the first six points. They extended their lead at 15-8 after McDonough earned a kill with the assist to Welsch. The Tars won the set 25-12 after Dieudonne earned a kill with the assist to April Jackson. The Tars had 17 kills and four errors, while hitting .361 in the set.

The Tars also had 44 kills, which adds $11 to The Finley Project. Adding the October total to $88.00.

NEXT UP FOR ROLLINS: The Tars host the SSC/GSC Crossover Tournament Saturday, October 18 and continue against the University of West Alabama at 11 a.m.
