WALTHAM, Mass. (April 25, 2013) - The Rollins
baseball team came back from a four-run deficit to win 10-8 over
the Assumption Greyhounds in a nonconference contest Thursday
afternoon at Robert DeFelice Field.
Southpaw Brett
Mueller tossed 4.1 innings to earn the win in relief. He
allowed one run on three hits while striking out a game-high four.
Junior Eric
Morse pitched 0.2 inning to pick up his fourth save of the
year.
After taking an early 3-1 lead in the second, Rollins allowed
six runs in the top of the fourth that gave the Greyhounds a 7-3
lead. Assumption extended their lead in the top sixth, but a
Rollins six-spot would be all that the Tars needed for the
win.
Thomas
Kelly, Hunter
Mayfield, Zach
Persky, Brian
Lattanzi, Evan
Rivera and Matt
Hendricks all scored for Rollins in the sixth. Kelly and
Mayfield scored first for the Tars as they took advantage of a
defensive miscue by the Greyhounds. On the following at-bat, a
double to left center scored Persky for the third run of the
frame. A bases clearing triple by Hendricks allowed for Lattanzi
and Rivera to score. Hendricks scored the final run of the inning
on a bloop single to right to give the Tars a one-run advantage,
9-8.
Rollins added an insurance run in the eighth that saw Mayfield
score his second run of the day.
Assumption's Bill King was charged with the loss in 5.2 innings
of work. He allowed nine runs on 11 hits and struck out one.
Matt
Hendricks went 4-for-5 for the Tars with two RBI and a run.
Rollins continues the Boston road trip with a 3 p.m. contest
against St. Anselm in Manchester, N.H. Fans can follow the action
