WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 8, 2013) - Rollins
was down 2-0 in the match, but rallied and defeated the Saint Leo
Lions 3-2 (25-27, 16-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-11) Friday night at
Warden Arena.
The last time the Tars accomplished such a feat was on September
24, 2013 when Rollins defeated then-No. 25 Palm Beach Atlantic.
Rollins now improves to 20-6 overall and 7-4 in the Sunshine
State Conference standings, sliding up to third behind Tampa and
Florida Southern. The 2013 season also marks the third 20+ win
season in the past four years for Head Coach Sindee
Snow.
The Tars started the match in a rough patch as they hit .114 in
the first set and were held to a .094 hitting percentage in the
second set. Saint Leo (19-8, 6-4) hit .438 in the second, winning
25-16.
Out of the intermission, Rollins entered the court with full
force, earning a 25-18 win. The Tars hit .350 and held the Lions
to a .189 attack percentage. Ruth
Harrington recorded six of her 14 kills in the third set.
Rollins started off on a 7-2 run forcing an early Saint Leo
timeout. The Tars continued to push the lead and led by as many as
10 at the 22-12 mark on a block by Camille
Indest. A kill by Kelly
Merideth sealed the win for Rollins.
The fourth set didn't come with as much ease for the Tars as
Rollins won 25-23. The frame included five ties and two lead
changes. A defensive miscue by the Tars evened the score at
23-all, but a kill by Harrington and block by Indest secured the
win.
The Tars' momentum carried on over to the fifth set as they won
15-11. The pressure was too much for SLU as they committed seven
errors, hitting .000 for the set. Rollins hit .240 as an
all-around team effort earned them the win.
Rollins started the frame on a 7-3 run, forcing a Saint Leo
timeout. The Tars managed to keep steady, allowing the Lions to
come within one at the 12-11 mark. Back-to-back kills by
Harrington and Indest followed by a block by Indest secured the win
and match.
The Tars were led by a trio with double-figure kills. Ruth
Harrington recorded her fourth double-double with 14 kills and
13 digs. Camille
Indest and Katlyn
Sawyer chipped in with 12 kills each. Indest also had six
blocks and five digs.
Defensively, four Tars noched double-digit digs. Collyn
Welsch posted a team-best 23 digs, while Kelly
Merideth recorded 15, Harrington 13 and Christina
Carracino 11.
Tawni Warren led the Lions' offense with 21 kills, while three
others posted double-figure kills.
