ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 5, 2012) - The
Rollins baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Eckerd Tritons
at Turley Complex Thursday night. Rollins falls to 19-11 overall
and 2-5 in the SSC while Eckerd improves to 15-17 on the season and
3-10 in the conference.
It was a pitcher's duel in the Tars' third conference series of
the season as both starting pitchers combined for 20 strikeouts.
Winning pitcher Joey Cuda finished the night with a career-high 14
strikeouts while Taylor
Smith registered six.
As Rollins was held scoreless through five innings, Eckerd
struck first scoring a pair of runs in the third. Joey LaRose
drove in the first run on a RBI double and was then plated by Joe
McLemore on a single to center.
Rollins put the wheels in motion in the sixth after Nick
Adams reached on a fielding error by the Tritons shortstop. A
single by Anthony
Figliolia moved him over to third while a Zach
Persky fielder's choice plated the run to cut the deficit in
half.
In the home half of the sixth, Eckerd tacked on another run to
extend their lead to 3-1. Two innings later, McLemore crushed a
ball over the left field wall to put the Tritons up 4-1 for the
final score of the game.
Figliolia was the only to Tar to reach multiple hits with two.
For Eckerd, McLemore finished the night going 3-for-4 with two RBI,
a home run, run scored and his second save of the season.
The Tars will wrap-up the series on Friday, April 6 with a
