ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 5, 2012) - The Rollins baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Eckerd Tritons at Turley Complex Thursday night. Rollins falls to 19-11 overall and 2-5 in the SSC while Eckerd improves to 15-17 on the season and 3-10 in the conference.

It was a pitcher's duel in the Tars' third conference series of the season as both starting pitchers combined for 20 strikeouts. Winning pitcher Joey Cuda finished the night with a career-high 14 strikeouts while Taylor Smith registered six.

As Rollins was held scoreless through five innings, Eckerd struck first scoring a pair of runs in the third. Joey LaRose drove in the first run on a RBI double and was then plated by Joe McLemore on a single to center.

Rollins put the wheels in motion in the sixth after Nick Adams reached on a fielding error by the Tritons shortstop. A single by Anthony Figliolia moved him over to third while a Zach Persky fielder's choice plated the run to cut the deficit in half.

In the home half of the sixth, Eckerd tacked on another run to extend their lead to 3-1. Two innings later, McLemore crushed a ball over the left field wall to put the Tritons up 4-1 for the final score of the game.

Figliolia was the only to Tar to reach multiple hits with two. For Eckerd, McLemore finished the night going 3-for-4 with two RBI, a home run, run scored and his second save of the season.

The Tars will wrap-up the series on Friday, April 6 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 Noon. Fans can catch all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
