WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 19, 2012) - Despite the inclement weather in the surrounding area, Rollins was able to put two in the books against SSC foe Florida Tech. The Tars dropped a 9-6 decision in game one of the doubleheader but came back to even the series with a 9-1 victory in the night cap Friday.

In game one, Rollins and Florida Tech were run-for-run through the first two frames as the score was tied at three runs apiece. Rollins then took a two-run lead in the bottom of the fourth, 5-3.

Steve Betcherman led off the inning on a stand-up double to right and then came around to score on a bloop single to center by Nick Adams. Adams then gave the Tars the two run lead scoring on a grounder to short.

Florida Tech posted a big fifth inning as they scored five runs to take an 8-5 lead. Rollins was unable to recover from the deficit as they managed to score only one more run in the nine-inning affair. The Panthers extended their lead in the ninth as designated hitter Scott Carcaise hit a lead-off homer, 9-6.

Combined, the two teams registered 24 hits and was the Tars' 18th game tallying double-figure hits. Florida Tech also managed to get a pair of home runs off the Tars pitching staff with the Panthers only other bomb coming in the opening frame on a two-run shot by Ryan McChesney. McChesney was 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs and a home run.

Jason Boyer picked up his seventh win of the season in six innings of work while striking out a game-high seven and allowing two walks. He scattered 11 hits and gave up four earned runs. In three innings of two hit baseball, Mannara notched his fourth save of the season, striking out four and allowing no runs to cross the plate.

Anthony Figliolia (6-2) was saddled with the loss in four innings on the bump for the Blue and Gold. The right-hander gave up a season-high five walks and struck out one Panther batter. He surrendered seven earned runs on seven hits.

Betcherman led the Tars offense going 4-for-5 with a double and run scored. Nick Adams and Kevin Mager each had three hits off the Panthers while Adams added two runs scored.

After a rain delay pushed back the start time of game two, Rollins was underway and aggressive at the plate. The Tars were quick to score one run in the first and another run in the second. Florida Tech scored their only run of the game in the third on a sacrifice fly by K.C. Clabough that drove in Jimmie Koch.

Rollins then tacked on another three runs in the fourth and closed out the contest with a four-run sixth.

The Tars' three-run fourth was attributed to a costly FIT error, along with four hits and a sacrifice bunt from Rollins' lineup. Steve Betcherman and Boston Langley got back-to-back hits for the Tars and then were put in scoring position on a sac bunt by Josh Band. Betcherman then scored on a misplayed ball by the Panthers first baseman. Langley then scored the next run on a grounder to second. Adams, who reached on the misplayed ball by FIT, scored the following run on a bases clearing double by Brian Lattanzi.

In the bottom of the sixth, Langley scored the first run of the inning and his third of the night (career-high). Anthony Figliolia scored the Tars' seventh run of the night on a RBI single by Zach Persky who then, along with Lattanzi, scored on a two-RBI double by Kevin Mager. Langley finished the night a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with a double and three runs scored.

Southpaw Brett Mueller (5-1) pitched his second complete game win of the season as he recorded four strikeouts and issued one walk while scattering three hits.

Florida Tech starter Tyler Carman was charged with the loss in 5.2 innings of work. He also struck out four and issued one walk but surrendered all 11 Rollins hits and nine runs.

Along with Langley's three hits, Zach Persky also chipped in with three hits with two RBI and a run scored.

Rollins will look to wrap up the conference series against Florida Tech on Saturday, April 21 with start time scheduled for 10:30 a.m. due to foreseen inclement weather in the forecast.
