WALTHAM, Mass. (April 24, 2012) - After
inclement weather forced Monday's game to be moved to Tuesday, the
Rollins baseball team chalked up a pair of win with a 7-4 victory
over the Bentley Falcons and a 7-1 win over Stonehill at the Robert
DeFelice Field.
Facing Bentley for the fifth time this season, Rollins was able
to pull ahead of the Falcons after Bentley tied the score in the
bottom of the seventh. The Tars chalked up a 7-4 win and are 5-0
against Bentley this season.
Bentley jumped out to an early lead scoring a pair of runs in
the opening frame. Mike Muir scored the first run on the sacrifice
fly by Greg Baggett while Logan Gillis scored on a two-out bases
loaded walk.
Rollins cut the deficit in half in the top of the second as Kevin
Mager scored on a grounder to short by Boston
Langley.
In the top of the fifth, the Tars took the 4-2 lead pushing
three runs across the plate. Langley started the inning with a
lead-off hit by pitch and then was followed with back-to-back hits
from Nick
Adams and Anthony
Figliolia. Langley scored first on Figliolia's double followed
by a bases clearing double from Zach
Persky that scored Adams and Figliolia.
The Falcons made it a ball game in the bottom of the seventh
scoring two runs to even the score at four runs apiece as Gillis
and Muir scored their second runs of the day.
Rollins gave themselves a two-run cushion in the top of the
eighth on a RBI single that plated Mager and a sacrifice fly that
crossed Sean
Reilly at the plate. The Tars tacked on an insurance run in
the final inning of play with Figliolia scoring on a Persky
fielder's choice.
Figliolia and Mager led the Tars offense with two hits and two
runs while Brandon
Curson also had two hits. Right-handed reliever Mike
Howard (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season in 2.1
innings of work. He struck out three and allowed two hits and no
runs.
Bentley's Connor Root took the loss for the Falcons in 4.0
innings on the mound. He surrendered three runs on five hits and
allowed two walks and recorded one strikeout.
In the second game of the day for the Tars, Rollins faced the
Stonehill Skyhawks and won 7-1.
Both starters were pitch-for-pitch as the game went scoreless
through three innings. Rollins broke the silence in the bottom of
the fourth on a run by Kevin
Mager.
Sean
Reilly extended the Tars lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth
as he crushed a ball over the left center wall.
Stonehill managed to get on the board late in the game with one
run in the top of the seventh. Michael White scored on a two-out
RBI single by Steven Popp.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rollins tacked on three runs to
push their lead to 5-1. After Langley fouled out to the first
baseman, Brett
Flutie laced a ball into left field and came around to score on
a RBI single from Figliolia. Figliolia, along with Persky, scored
the next two runs on a double to the left center gap by Mager.
Rollins added another two runs in the bottom of the eighth to
cap off the scoring.

Reilly led the Tars lineup with three hits while Zach
Persky, Anthony
Figliolia and Kevin
Mager chipped in with two hits each.
Earning the win for Rollins was right-hander Mike
Herrmann (3-3). He struck out a season-high seven and allowed
three walks and one run while scattering two hits.
Stonehill's Bryan Galligan was saddled with the loss in 6.2
innings of work. He struck out four and gave up five runs on 10
hits.
Rollins will return to Sunshine State Conference action on
Thursday, April 26 when they head to Pasco County to face the Saint
Leo Lions. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
