WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 31, 2012) - Just five
days after upsetting the nation's top team, sixth-ranked Rollins
scored perhaps an even bigger win, beating third-ranked Barry 5-4
Saturday.
Down 4-2, Rollins (12-6, 5-1 Sunshine State Conference) picked
up three-set victories at three and six singles to knot the score
4-4 before rain settled in. After a three-hour weather delay,
senior Jeff Morris won seven straight points at No. 2
singles to clinch the win for Rollins.
Rollins took the top doubles match as 10th-ranked Lucas Jovita and Jason Alabaster beat 13th-ranked Daniel
Schmidt and Fabian Groetsch 9-8(3).
Barry (15-3, 4-1) went to take the other two doubles points. Constantin Sturdza and Bernardo Barroso fell to Marco Mokrzycki and Leo
Vivas 9-2 in the No. 2 match while Moris and Ari Davis dropped an 8-5 decision to Ollie Lemaitre
and Romain Costamanga at No. 3.
Second-ranked Jovita cruised past 11th-ranked Mokrzycki 6-1, 6-1
in the top singles match. At No. 3, 43rd-ranked
Christensen downed Daniel Schmidt 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Strudza won the
No. 6 match 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 match.
Sixth-ranked Morris won the first set over Costamanga 6-3, but
dropped the second 3-6. He was down in the third when the rains
came but regrouped and came back to win the third and deciding set
7-5.
The win puts Rollins firmly in second place in the SSC standings
with just Eckerd left on the schedule. The Tars and Tritons will
meet Sunday, April 1 in St. Petersburg.
