WINTER PAR, Fla. (February 25, 2012) - With
bases loaded and two outs, Kevin
Mager drew a full-count walk to score Nick
Adams for the winning run in the Tars' 4-3 victory over the
Saint Anselm Hawks Saturday evening. The win is now the Tars'
fifth consecutive victory and improves Rollins to 8-3 on the
season.
After Saint Anselm put up a three-spot in the top of the sixth
to lead 3-1, Rollins used a late-inning rally to come from behind
for the win. The Tars took the first lead in the bottom of the
fifth to break the pitcher's duel. Josh
Band scored the run after reaching first on a single through
the left side and coming around on a Nick
Adams double to left.
Rollins came within one in the bottom of the eighth as a failed
pickoff attempt aided the Tars in the score. After reaching safely
on a fielder's choice, Zach
Persky advanced to second on the failed attempt and then moved
to third on a single by Mager. Persky then scored on the sacrifice
fly to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Hawks.
In the bottom of the ninth, Band got things rolling for the Tars
with a hard-hit ball to the pitcher that allowed him to reach
safely. With two outs on the board, Adams reached on a throwing
error by the Hawks' shortstop, which also allowed Band to advance
to third after stealing second. Anthony
Figliolia then drove in Band to tie the score at 3-all as he
reached on another defensive miscue by the Hawks. Bases were then
loaded by Persky drawing Mager to the plate. Mager extended the
count to full and then drew a walk to score Adams at third for the
win.
Brett
Mueller (2-0) earned his second win of his collegiate career
going three innings and allowing three hits, while recording one
strikeout. Rollins starting pitcher Taylor
Smith received the no decision in five innings of work, but
recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts.
Josh
Band and Nick
Adams each had two hits off the Hawks pitching staff, while
Band added two runs scored and a stolen base. Adams recorded a run
scored, one RBI, a double and two stolen bags.
Saint Anselm's James Farrington (0-1) took the loss for the
Hawks in two-thirds of an inning pitched. He gave up two runs on
one hit and allowed one walk.
Rollins will be back in action on Sunday, February 26 in game
two of the series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Fans can catch
