WINTER PAR, Fla. (February 26, 2012) - After
winning eight straight contests at Alfond Stadium, the Rollins
baseball team suffered its first home loss as they fell 6-4 to
Saint Anselm Sunday afternoon.
Rollins falls to 8-4 on the season, while Saint Anselm improves
to 3-2 overall.
The Tars were led by Anthony
Figliolia as he was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
He registered three hits, one run, an RBI, a double, triple, and a
walk. Kevin
Mager, Brian
Lattanzi and Greg
Smith each had two hits off the Hawks.
Right-hander Adam
Ogburn (1-1) was charged with the loss going 2.2 innings,
giving up three runs on six hits and allowing one walk.
After Rollins took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, Saint
Anselm tied up the score in the top of the third. The Hawks then
took a one-run lead in the fourth inning, but the Tars evened the
score in the home half at three runs apiece. Greg
Smith hit a solo home run over the leftfield fence wall to tie
the score.
In the top of the fifth, the Hawks put up a pair of runs to take
a 5-3 lead. Rollins answered back in the bottom half with a lone
run to make the score 5-4. The Tars were unable to overcome the
deficit giving up another run in the seventh as their bats went
cold in the final four innings of play. Of the 11 total team hits,
three were recorded in the final four innings.
Saint Anselm was led by Robert Kelly as he was 3-for-5 with five
RBIs, one run scored, a double and a home run. Starter John Healy
was awarded the win in over five innings of work, while Joe Latino
earned the save.
Rollins will be back in action on Monday, February 27 for the
rubber match against Saint Anselm. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
