Rollins Returns the Favor and Splits Twinbill with Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 2, 2011) - After dropping game one of the doubleheader by a score of 12-3, Rollins returned the favor and snapped a five-game losing streak to take game two by a score of 15-7 on Saturday afternoon at the McCusker Sportsplex.

In game one, Rollins scored three runs on 12 hits, while committing two errors. Brian Lattanzi, who was a perfect 3-3 from the plate, along with Max Pavy and John Avanzino all scored for the Tars.

Will Krasne, who was unable to get an out in the second inning, took the loss for Rollins with one inning of work. Krasne (3-2) gave up Lynn's seven runs in the first two frames on four hits.

John Avanzino put Rollins up on the board in the second inning on a two-out single by Sean Reilly. Down 9-1 in the eighth, Rollins scored late in the game with a pair of runs. Brian Lattanzi crossed the plate on a bases loaded walk, while Max Pavy scored on a bases loaded single.

Lynn's Jason Beaumont (5-2) got the winning nod with seven innings of work, to go along with six strikeouts and two walks. Beaumont gave up Rollins' three runs.

In game two, Rollins turned it around to take back a game from the Knights with a 15-7 win. The Tars scored nine runs in the second, third, and fourth inning to enjoy a 9-3 lead through five innings.

Rollins scored six runs with bases loaded, including two walks in the second. LU scored three runs in the third, went scoreless through three, and finished with four runs in the ninth to cap off the afternoon with seven runs.

The Tars closed out the game with a run in the sixth and five runs in the seventh. In the top of the seventh, junior Kevin Mager hit a bases clearing triple, his sixth, to score Tony Brunetti and Josh Band. Mager is two triples away from tying the program record of eight set in 1974 by John Castino.

Southpaw Matt White( 2-1) got the winning nod for Rollins with 5 2/3 innings of work. White struck out four, walked one, and gave up three earned runs. Brian Lattanzi got three hits off the Knights, while John Avanzino, Kevin Mager, Greg Smith, and Josh Band each got two hits. Avanzino picked up his 12th double of the year, along with five RBIs in game two.
