WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21, 2011) - Kicking
off their 2011 campaign with a record of 6-2, the Rollins women's
lacrosse team enters the IWLCA DII National Poll for the first time
in 2011, coming in at No. 10 on this week's poll, announced
Tuesday.
This marks the first time the Tars have sat on the national poll
since the 2009 season, when Rollins was ranked 10th for
two consecutive weeks, making their debut on March 11, 2009.
Rollins has dropped only two contests this season, both to
nationally ranked opponents. The Tars were turned back by No. 1
and current two-time defending national champion Adelphi on
February 23, and then gave previous-No. 9 Stonehill a run for their
money in an 11-9 loss on March 15.
Adelphi continues to hold onto the No. 1 position, with Lock
Haven and Limestone coming in at the second and third slots,
respectively. C.W. Post and LeMoyne tie for fourth, and Stonehill
makes the jump from eighth to sixth this week.
Mercyhurst continues to ride the poll at No. 7 this week, while
West Chester falls from sixth to eighth this week. Gannon holds
onto their No. 9 ranking as the Tars are the only new member of the
poll this week.
The PSAC continues to lead all conferences with four schools, as
Lock Haven rises to No. 2 and Mercyhurst (No. 7), West Chester (No.
8), and Gannon (No. 9) form a block in the second half of the poll.
The Northeast-10's three schools are led by top-ranked Adelphi; Le
Moyne moves up to No. 4 and Stonehill rises to No. 6.
Three conferences each claim one school. Limestone (No. 3)
represents the Conference Carolinas, while C. W. Post hails from
the ECC. Rollins competes as an independent.
The Tars return to action on Tuesday, March 22, when they host
Erskine College at Hungerford Preparatory Field. Game time against
the Flying Fleet is set for 7 p.m. Fans can find the latest news,
updates, and information on all of Rollins women's lacrosse on the
