Berry Leads No. 13 Rollins to Holiday Classic Win over Holy Family

WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 30, 2011) - Kourtnie Berry

tied a career high with 19 points and led 13th-ranked Rollins past pesky Holy Family University 67-61 on the final day of the Rollins Holiday Classic.

The win was the Tars' (9-1) ninth straight while the Tigers, who received votes in the latest WBCA Division II poll, drops to 7-5.

Berry was 6-of-10 from the field and hit four 3-pointers to lead Rollins' offense. She scored 16 of her team-high 19 in the second half. Ashley Jones added 10 points and six rebounds while Tera McDaniel chipped in 10 points and four assists.

Erin Mann led HFU with a game-high 29 points and 12 rebounds. Ana Cruz added 12 points and five assists.

The Tars opened up a nine-point advantage over the first 10 minutes, 16-7. After the Tigers chipped away, Rollins pushed the lead to 30-21 with two minutes to play in the first.

Holy Family closed the period on a 6-0 run, all on jumpers by Mann, to make it a 30-27 Tars lead at the half.

The Tars held a 51-47 lead with 10 minutes to play, but again Mann got hot and put the Tigers on top 52-51 at the 7:41 mark.

A pair of Berry free throws put Rollins back on top and sparked an 8-0 run to give Rollins a 60-52 advantage with three minutes to play. Holy Family cut the lead to 63-61, but McDaniel scored three straight points down the stretch to seal up the Tars victory.

Rollins shot 43 percent (25-58) from the floor, but were just 7-of-26 (27 percent) from the 3-point line. HFU hit 51 percent (25-49) in the game while both teams gathered 33 rebounds.

Rollins forced 27 turnovers and turned them into 21 points while committing 19 miscues.

The Tars will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Palm Beach Atlantic for a nonconference tilt. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. Fans can catch all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
