WINTER PARK, Fla. -

The Rollins baseball ninth inning rally fell short in the opening game of the 62n d Annual Rollins College Baseball Week, 6-3 to the Georgetown Hoyas, Monday evening at Alfond Stadium.

Trailing 6-0, the Tars (14-6) managed to cut the lead in half on a Ryan Luker two-run RBI double in the gap in left center. Rollins got the tying run at the plate, but a fielder's choice ended the contest and sealed the Hoyas (5-4) win.

Luker led the team with a 2-for-4 perfomance, the only Tar to register multiple hits. Luker is second on the team in batting average with a .384 mark and increased his RBI mark to 15.

First baseman Kevin Mager recorded the other RBI in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to center. He tallied his lone hit in the contest in the fourth.

Shortstop Justin Yount, left fielder Tony Brunetti and Taylor Ferguson scored the runs for Rollins. Ferguson was recently named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week.

Starter Ben Blanton (3-2) earned the loss after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing eight hits and five runs. Blanton was solid in the first three innings holding the Hoyas to just two hits. Georgetown tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings, before adding two more insurance runs in the seventh.

Chip Yount relieved Blanton and inherited one runner and surrendered two hits and one run over 1.2 innings of work. Matt White finished the eighth and started the ninth, before Robbie Pagano recorded the final out in the ninth.

Georgetown's Tim Adleman (2-0) pitched 8.2 and quieted the Tars bats for the majority of the contest. Adleman allowed three hits over the first eighth innings, before Rollins caught up with him with three in the ninth. He finished with three unearned runs in the contest.

The Tars will have little rest for game two of their tournament as they take on Maine, Tuesday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m. The game will be one of three games being played for Baseball For A Cure where all proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
